Hey guys, I just started filing out the paperwork and have started to collect supporting evidences. I have read over the CR1 guidelines and iam wondering if anyone has any other helpful suggestions. Also if your spouse is living aboard what address does one put for the last address to which you have resided together? If you have never resided together here in the states?

Hey,

Congrats on the filing...I just finished the CR1 path....I would really study the guides on here because trust me you don't need a lawyer and you don't want RFEs. Send in whatever evidence you can in the beginning so that you don't get any either. Like a couple of pictures, copies of your itinerary, letters of your relationship from others, emails, just a few so that they have it. In terms of the living abroad question, I put none, because I don't think it counts unless you leased an apartment together.

Good luck

Just wondering are copies of photo's okie? (ie Photo's printed out on plain paper) I don't want to send the originals and it would be easier to print them out rather than running to walmart and getting the pictures printed on photo paper. Also how many letters from friends or family would be sufficient?

That is what I sent, I think sending printed photos on paper is better as they are the same size as the application and they have less of a chance to get lost...

Choose none, and try as best as possible to answer the questions correctly.

Question about address, which address does one put if you intend on moving next year? Also when one does move how do you go about changing your address on the I-130 or letting them know that you have moved.

I put none for previous shared address, sent 5 pictures (I printed on color photo paper but I think on normal paper should be OK). Put your current address. At every step of the way there are options for changing your address. When you get your NOA1 it will have explicit instructions for address change on it. I think address change is pretty common for petitioners, don't sweat it. Good luck with your journey.

Get your own printer with scanner. You'll be printing forms and maybe photocopies a lot.

Use the petitioner's US address. The one time you want to use the beneficiary's address is for the IV package or DS-230.

Have extra ID photos and extra certified copies of documents ready. So you don't waste valuable time later if something goes missing.

Keep sending stuff to each other during the process. Call each other. Stay in touch with your family as well. Make it obvious they know about the relationship. Get lots and lots of photos. More photos, bills and phone records; less emails and chats.

You will need to time the police clearance for the interview. It's safe to get it a few months before the interveiw date, so long as it's still valid by then. Ask in the regional forums to find out how long it takes to get a PCC.

Try to get ALL the docs you need for NVC before you get your NOA2. Note, BEFORE you get the NOA2. There's a guide there on "Flying Through the NVC." It's around here on VJ. Also look up the NVC flowchart to understand the process better.

If wife is the beneficiary, decide now what name she will use on her green card. To adjust it later would cost more money. Use the name you want on her green card in your I-130. That's the name they'll have in their records. USCIS will refer to it once she's in the US to give her her green card.

I read somewhere that your suppose to send original or certified copies...To be honest iam not comfortable with this. We were married in Lebanon and I only have 2 copies of our marriage certificate. My husband is currently in Saudi Arabia and would have to fly back to lebanon to get more copies of our marriage certificate. They will not taked photocopies? Also does one get back this documents at the end of the process?
