If you are applying for a K-3 spouse visa, you send your application to Chicago.

Then what?

Does Chicago issue the NOA1?

Is your application then forwarded to your local service center?

Do they send the NOA1?

Who actually processes your application?

Do you have to go through the same lengthy process as the I-130 (medical exam, interview, ect)?

Thanks!

Chicago is only a lockbox for initial mailing. All I-129F petitions for spouse are processed in Missouri at the NBC (National Benefits Center). You will receive the NOA's from NBC. Once the petition is approved it is forwarded to the NVC where it will be assigned a case number & undergo further security checks before being sent to the consulate post.

K-3 visas applications even though they are nonimmigrant visas are processed in much the same way as an immigrant visa (CR-1). Yes a medical is required as is an interview etc.
