sad to see things like that happen, but we go through the same stuff here in louisiana. we are still recovering from the last huricane we had . the question i have , was the U.S. Embassy in manila hit bad or is it on high ground, and what kind of delays can we all expect???

ummm I have been to the front gate of the embassy grounds... the embassy is about 5-15 feet above sea level but it sits right on manila bay so unless the ocean and waves damaged it.. I would guess that it is not badly flooded... but there are many many people in the city without power and cell service... I pray that the losses are at a minimum...

See how much we have been abusing God's gifs to us? The flood that struck Metro Manila and other parts of the National Capital Region was indeed a result of how much we have been unmindful for the effects of us-- not caring for the proper disposal of garbage, rich people converting every available spaces to subdivisions, and the list goes on and on... We don't have proper drainage anymore. Bodies of water around the metro are now Malls. So where else the water will go? Moreover, because of the global warming, Philippine's sea level is really plunging rapidly as the years passes by.

What will the Filipinos should do if a much stronger typhoon comes a long the way? This really calls for voting wisely this coming Presidential election and hopefully the next president would actually care to do something in terms of defense for natural calamity.

Simple solution! "Fire" the pope and use birth control.

My wife can sleep tonight. All her family members are now accounted for.

that's great news. i was out there yesterday. heck i didn't know what i was thinking going to work from calamba laguna to makati. i was in the bus more than 12 hours. i was so scared, hungry, tired. i didn't know what to do. and we definitely couldn't go anywhere. that was the worst storm ever. but i am grateful still that it wasn't windy like the usual storms we have. that would be worse. that amount of rainfall and wind? omg! i can't imagine.

My wife had to return to Manila (Quezon City) 2 weeks ago because her brother is dying. She is due to return October 1, in 4 days. I tried calling her, but it doesnt even go through. I dont know anything of her situation, how she is, where she is at... nothing... because cant get through on phone.

Her birth town is Tanay, Rizal, where her sick brother is at. She has been there quite a bit on this trip, but I saw news accounts many were swept away there in flash floods.

I am very worried

Brian in Virginia

My wife got in touch with me at about 10:30. She is safe, but she didnt sleep all last night because she was afraid the flood waters would come in. She is in Quezon City while on her trip back to the Philippines. She said the cell phones arent working because of the flood. She said if the waters came high where she lives she would have gone to higher ground at the train station (MRT I am assuming).

I knew more than she did about things on the ground there because I searched every thing I could find in writing and vids, worrying about her. She was unaware, for example, that the president got stranded in the flood waters on a dumptruck, and had to go by MRT the rest of the way to the crisis center. But my wife and her brother and his family in her birth town, Tanay Rizal, are all safe too. Thanks to God.

And the airport is open again! Yipee! She comes home this Thursday...

My wife's family lost their home in the flooding (their house collapsed) and one of her sisters is missing.

I'm so sorry to hear that. From what I've seen, rescue teams are doing everything in their capacity to be of service to the flood victims. My heart goes out to the people in the afflicted areas. I hope they find your sister in law soon.

I was born and raised in the Philippines but this is the first time I've witnessed a flood this drastic. There was a throng of vehicles stranded in front of our house since the downward slope was flooded - - - waist deep! I feel fortunate that there was no damage whatsoever to our property and that my family is safe. The village's security guard even had to abandon his usual post and stand by our gate, sitting on his bike just to keep himself above the water.

poor drainage + greenhouse effect. The government should act on this, pronto.

Dude! How rude do you need to be, honestly? Development is directly responsible for flooding problems and climate change, though not entirely caused by us, is definitely affected by our actions. Don't read the Philippines section if you don't care for the posts here. It's a long way from both Angola and Texas.
