What's the general consensus on the DS-230 questions 43a and b regarding having SSA assign a number? Is it best to do this at the embassy or to not have it done at that stage and take care of it once my family is here (my local SSA office is within walking distance of my apartment)?

Mark :)

mark it is a coin toss. doesn't hurt to say you want the social security number automatically sent, but i hear that it doesn't always work, and you end up going to the local office anyway. so imho, i say yes, maybe it will work

So I actually finished the massive AOS packet and mailed that in just now. I sent in the Choice of Agent and AOS forms today. Productive day. Now we wait with fingers crossed.

I mailed ours and confirmed everything was recieved but so far no email or snail mail from NVC. I really hope they take a peek and get back to us soon.

I have the bill since thursday but no emails yet...so still waiting, this sucks

I am debating on paying without the email.....hmmmmmmmm :whistle::innocent:

Quick question What is AVR? I see it in your time line and I am not sure. Thanks :)

AVR is the wonderful automated voice response system that you get when you call NVC...

To And_Sam... Were you invoiced for the $$ in the sytem? If so, call NVC and clarify why you have not gotten the notification... But do not just go and pay things if they have not been invoiced... Like paying an electric bill before the house is built!!

I don't know what you mean invoiced for the money in the system.. I paid the $70 then got the cover letter and mailed in my 864 package. I see that the IV bill is available to pay but I thought I was suppose to wait for an email saying that I had to pay the IV bill...no email but IV bill is available on the website...is that what you mean??? The bill must be available right??

we had the IV bill available on the same day yours was and we thought of waiting for the email too. but we got tired of waiting so after 24 hours of it being available for payment, we sent they payment last friday. it now shows as paid so im printing the cover page and sending my the DS-230 packet today. you might want to take your chance and send the payment, for all we know it might take weeks for you to get the email considering how slow processing is right now.

NVC AVR is saying that we are missing some documents and NVC operator has confirmed it's the DS-230 we are missing. Hopefully after i send my packet today the next thing we will hear from them is case complete.

Today is the husband's birthday so this is truly a lovely gift not just for him but for me too :D

Ok, so I waited as long as I could...I paid it last night!! It has been available since last Thursday but NEVER received an email...so I paid it...and guess what?? STILL NO EMAIL!!! Well I guess maybe I won't get an email saying it was available to pay... Now I will wait and see if they take the money out of my checking account and I can print the cover letter!

I have all the forms for the 230 to send it..

Ok, new question. I keep reading that we should send in the original certificates along with a copy of all the papers..Is that so they will send the originals back to me or my husband? Or will they forward them on to the embassy in Cairo???

Any help with this is soooooooooo appreciated!!!!

hi andrea, from what i understand, you send the copies so the originals will be given back to your husband at the embassy.

has anyone been able to listen to the avr? as of last night, i cannot even talk to an operator.

Thanks Kathy! Now that makes sense!!

I tried to call the AVR last night a few times. I actually got through but it kept saying that it was extremely busy and a 5 minute wait time. I stayed on the line for over 10 minutes and never got the AVR or an operator. I just thought it was super busy. That is when I went ahead and paid the IV bill

Okay, I have to ask-what is jajajaja????

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

Okay, thanks! In Finnish the j is has a "y" sound, so I guess I should say yayaya!

My IV bill payment is now showing as pending at my bank! Hopefully it'll go through tomorrow (one of my gripes with Chase Bank...takes 24 hours for debits to go thru. Or maybe all banks do that??!!)!

Those forms are horrible! My husband gets too frustrated filling out stuff, so I did it all for him.... Yeah, he's not spoiled. And no, there is no bar code for the 230, Finn, so you are fine once you are showing paid.

And off to scanning I go!!! YIPPIE!!!!!!!!!! I SO can't wait for all of this to be done.....

Actually, it's not the forms themselves -- it's Adobe Reader. With Adobe Acrobat you can save all the data on the forms just fine, but with Adobe Reader, it is (like the name suggests) read-only. That's also why you can't create a PDF with Reader.

Also, I DID get a bar code for the DS-230 once it was paid... I sent it with my other documents.
