Well guess what? I just thought I'd sign onto the Dept. of State website, not expecting a thing. My IV bill was ready to be paid! Yay! Of course, it's late on Sat afternoon so it won't even start being processed until Monday. And had I checked earlier, I would have fedexed the 230 package today. Darn! I'll send it off on Monday. I'm so excited! The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter...

You can't send the DS-230 package until the NVC site says that your payment status is PAID.

I know, I know..I apparently left my brain somewhere else in the house. I've already totally screwed up, and I've seen Christeen's messages about this over and over! Now I'm embarrassed...

Petitioner = Get NVC # + receive AOS fee bill + pay 70$ online + wait to show paid + print cover sheet + send 854 AOS with all documents and case # written on each page

Benificerary = Get NVC# + receive 3032 + send 3032+ 3032 accepted + IV fee bill available to be paid + pay and wait to show paid + print IV cover sheet + mail 230 package with all original/certified documents

======= wait for case complete + wait for interview to be scheduled

Thanks Christeen! I guess I'm taking the role of the beneficiary by sending in everything and paying the IV bill! I wish I was more like my daughter-she doesn't worry about things out of her control...and I know I messed up by getting too excited by sending the payment, but there's nothing I can do about it now...

Okay that doesn't help me. ha! Time to find a good bottle of wine in the basement.

And Sam-does the AVR say your 3032 was accepted?

Sorry for taking so long to answer you Finn~~ I had to go back and reread the last couple of pages!! Man, miss reading one day and you get all kinds of back up!! I am sorry you blanked out and paid!! After all the talking we have been doing! I would give it a couple of days to see what happens with your bank account and then call and talk to a supervisor. and yes, the AVR says that the 3032 was accepted and I should hear from someone in like 4-6 weeks...I hope not!!!

Same here And_sam..waiting since thursday to pay the bill...got the package ready to go, just need the cover sheet, hope we can get the December interview...

December would be great!!

Now tell me about the 230 packet...do we need to include the originals AND also a photocopy of everything? So, basically the packet and a copy of the packet???

Thanks Scot! I just sent him an email (he's at work). I told him I made a bit of a screw-up. ha! I was actually feeling guilty by NOT telling him.

I'll try to straighten this out with NVC tomorrow. I'm sure anyone who doesn't have an attorney and isn't on NVC does the same thing, so they're probably used to it. I bank with Chase, and they're sooo slow and also wait 24 hours before any debits are processed. For once I may be glad about that!

And I bet he still loves you!

And yes he does! He really didn't get that it was MY mistake. ha! I tried to explain but he thinks the system is screwy. Whew!

Welcome to marriage... BTW.. NEVER admit it is a screw up... Just a "Miscalculation which is in the process of being resolved" ... This phrase give them less ammunition later when they screw up... errr... miscalculate the details... lol... :innocent:

Darn, that's a good quote! It's all good, because he really didn't get it anyway. I'm totally innocent!!!!

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

Well, and he would be right. Think about it. And think about the reactions you get from anyone you tell your experience to. This system is screwed up. The refrain that keeps going through my mind is "You really think that your agency's actions are okay, considering the hardships you are placing on the family of an American citizen? Really?". But then the government agencies I have worked for always had as one of our highest priorities taking into consideration the hardship of citizens (and residents, legal or otherwise, for that matter). Too bad DHS and DOS don't have similar mandates (apparently).

Today AVR states that 3032 rec'd but to allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing. What does this mean with respect to what you guys report? Where am I in relation to others on this thread? What can I reasonably expect (since 4 to 6 weeks seems unreasonable to me)?

Mark :)

Well, don't ask me...I'm the VJ Dork of the Day.

What does it show on the DOS website? Is the bill available? DON'T DO IT!!!!

And how did you get on the same timeline as me??!!!

Actually, I'm pretty sure it means you can pay it as soon as you get the email-which should be within two days???

I am praying for that email!

If I had not read all the posts about it I would have paid as soon as it was available too. It does say not to on the fee payment page though. Anyone here can understand your excitement. We all want to move to next step. Can you call Monday and sort it out?

But David's Girl, I've read all the posts about it and my mind just blanked out! I'll wake up earlier tomorrow before work and give them a call. I feel like I may have screwed myself out of a December interview. I don't want to tell my hubby how much of an idiot I was!

Dont beat yourself up over it. I wouldnt think it delays it by more than a few days anyway.

The system here is really screwy and difficult... However, I also went through a hassle getting my residency card and permission to reside in Italy... Although a bit less buracratic than here... It was a very barbaric system... Despite the length, I am happy for the less personal treatment after my Italian experience... Here is the story of that...

I had to go to the police station and start to wait at 6 AM, it was freezing cold and light rain and you waited outside behind metal fences for the office to open up at 9AM... At 8:30 an officer came out and handed out numbers... The first 12 - 20 people got numbers... I guess it depended on how many people they wanted to process that morning... If you did not get a number, you could either wait till 10:30 AM when they came out again and said if they could accept more people, or you went home and tried again the next morning... The first 2 days, we did not get numbers and waited till 10:30, but no luck... we did not get into the building

We had to skip a few days after that since I caught a cold waiting out in the 43 degree weather in the misty rain... When I felt better, we showed up at 5AM to be sure we were one of the first 10 people in line... We got a number... You waited outside this door for an officer to come out and call the next number... They let 3 numbers in the building at a time... But everytime the officer came out, it was chaos as some who did not understand the process, speak Italian were bombarding him with info... He was VERY mean, rude and kept calling everyone "Miloshevich lovers" (since many of the intending immigrants in Italy in 2004 were from the former Yugoslav area) or a Genoese word that translates to "monkeys" for anyone immigrating from North Africa. I was so upset by the rudness of this officer and how he was treating everyone I was in tears. Most of the immigrants did not understand what he was calling them, but it really made me so angry...

Anyway, once I was inside the officer lady was very nice... Once they realized I was from America I got different treatment then the people applying from Armenia, Africa or any of the Slavic republics... We filed our papers and were told to come back in about 4-6 weeks... When we came back at 4 weeks, we had to try to catch the attention of the same rude officer controlling the people... When he so felt inclined he took a look at the paper receipts of people looking for their permissios (Italian green cards)... We came back each week. Finally at week 8 it was ready... To actually file for residency it took another 90 days, but I was allowed to stay there with him... I do not know if the system has changed there since 2004, but I dont imagine it has changed too much... Italy tends to be a bit slower at change... And it varies from provence to provence there...

Anyway... The funny thing is that 99% of Italians have no idea what immigrants have to go through... just like 99% of AMericans have no idea what the process we have to go through is... you only know AFTER you have to go through it.... Personally, I am very glad that we do not have to go through all that stress and waiting outside and name-calling here in the US...

I guess the point to this whole long story is that every country has a procedure, some better, some worse... Nobody but us knows what it is like and it is just something necessary to get to be together...

In my defense, I was comparing service provided by American public entities, not comparing immigration agencies with other countries' immigration agencies. But not trying to make a big deal out of anything.... just venting a tad....

No I know... just felt like sharing my experience when the tables were turned and I was the immigrant... But I was demonstrating that this process is difficult no matter where you go... I know that it might make others feel a bit better about this process knowing that there are others out there that are also difficult...

You just gotta do the research, follow the form instructions, pack your patience and hope and pray that the govt does their part..... We're all goin through this and as frustrating as it is, it is all worth it in the end... True love knows no borders, however, the govt does!

And yes he does! He really didn't get that it was MY mistake. ha! I tried to explain but he thinks the system is screwy. Whew!

Darn! Wish I could really comment on this! ;)

And Sam-yes, it's suggested to mail a copy also.

David's Girl-hot cheerleaders? HUH?

my hubby's post a few before where he said he was loving US football and the hot cheerleaders had nothing to do with it! Never mind. I was trying (badly) to be funny.
