Now we just hope to get an interview date and the medical!!!! We r so happy!!!!! We just can´t believe!! I think we r the last ones from august filers!!

I´m also so happy for Ms Sheka!!! and for all of u who got your visas!!!

YAY!!! Big Congrats.... Hope that NVC can squeeze you in for the interviews in March!!! You can check with the embassy reviews here to see how Spain works their medical... Each consulate is different (example, in Italy it is done ONLY the day before the interview, wheras others it is done when you get the interview date)...

Add two weeks to that Mark, and you have my count!!!!

Hey, btw, how are you and everyone else filing your taxes? I'm so confused...I don't know if we should wait until they get their SSNs (if they move here before the deadline), or if you can even file jointly if they didn't live in the US last year! Makes my head spin.

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

According to pub 519, I can count her as a resident for tax filing, which will be to my benefit (since she earned way below the allowed foreign-earned income exemption), so I just get the additional allowance. Pub 519 only talks about the ability to treat the spouse of a citizen or PR in this way, it omits other dependents, so I can't treat my stepson (which would be another allowance, but would add child support complications that I would rather worry about next year). So, I am waiting for the SSN. I should have it in plenty of time. I will have all the stuff done in TurboTax and will be able to push the button the moment the number is in.

But I am not versed in tax law, so follow my lead at your own risk.

From what I have read, you can file married filing separately, in any event.

Mark :)

I would wait if you can for the SSN so you can file married filing jointly... We are running into how to handle the foreign investments we have... We filed married filing seperate for the past 7 years as it hurt us because of his income with a US based company... But now he has to file but the FBAR and how to count foreign investments has me concerned...

I guess I should read pub 519...when I can't get to sleep. ha! So we have to put their income on our taxes? I'm going to play around with turbotax tomorrow and see what happens if I do married filed separately or jointly (if it lets me go back and change, which I think it does)...then wait until my Finn gets his SSN (which will be before 4/15). So confusing!

Speaking of sleep Mark, I bet you can't sleep tonight!!!!! Yay!!!!

Only slept in fits and starts, if you can really call that sleep. I have been up since 4. Her flight landed 6:22 (4:22 my time). It is 5:09 and I am anxiously awaiting the "I am here, my love" call. Man, I hate waiting....

Then they get here to Seattle at noon. Oh happy day!!

Mark :)

Why won't she call? She has been on the ground more than 2 hours and there is just over an hour until her next flight. I am pacing like an expectant father. Grrrrrrr....

Mark, you know I'm living vicariously through you today! Well, that's if you post after noon...ha!

And Sam, have a safe trip and kick butt in the interview!

Me? Well, I leave in eight days to go get the Finn Man! Here's a cultural difference between Finns and me...they hate clutter. They don't keep "stuff." They are super neat people. You can only imagine how much work I have yet to do to my house...and to my car! ha!
