Well, after a bunch of complicated maneuvering, my wife and stepson have their plane tickets. Most permutations were double or triple the expected price, but we ended up with the following:

1. I won't be going to Peru to get them :(

2. Luckily her best friend (the one who introduced us and lives near here) is in Peru now and flies back on 02/15.

3. I was able to get flights on the Lima to Houston leg okay, but not the Houston to Seattle.

4. Trying to just making Lima to Houston arrangements was a bust (more than twice as expensive and the airline "couldn't" give us direct to Houston... she would have to go through Newark, NJ, of all places....

5. Checking on doing national one ways for me to go to Houston to meet them wasn't too expensive, but I noticed that the Houston to Seattle flight on offer was the same one we had wanted from the get-go.

6. Made reservations for them on that flight (with our common friend).

So, she has tickets for Lima to Houston, and then two separate itineraries to Seattle (one via Newark, and one non-stop). Doing it this way only added 120 per ticket (plus baggage fees, if my wife can't convince the airline to check the bags through in Lima).

Oh well, not really how we wanted this to turn out. But, my baby will be with me on the 15th of next month (oh happy belated Valentine's Day!! :)

Yes, coordinating flights can be a real pain in the a$$ As far as the luggage... I can tellyou that there is a 99% chance that they will only check the bags through Houston since you purchased seperate one-ways to Seattle... Foreign airlines have a big issue checking bags through US airports.. In houston they get their bags, go through customs after immigration, then there is a connections desk just outside the customs, they can direct you to where she needs to go to re-check the bags, if you are taking Continental, they they can usually check them right there, other airlines I am not sure...

Yeah. I figure that is a possibility. The only hope I have is that all the flights involved are Continental. Worse comes to worst, she has to pay for her bags on the connecting. Oh well, it will still come out cheaper than the other permutations I looked at.

OMG Red!! I thought you forgotten about us!!! Yeah, I know I should take a break from this place but each time someone I know gets an approval or finishes one part of this journey to begin another I feel a little happiness! Like it was me going right along with them.

I know it's hard for you to still be waiting for an appointment, but then from what I read it does take Cananda a while to schedule appts. Egypt is good for scheduling appts but then getting the actual visa afterwards is where we will doing all of our waiting. I am just hoping and praying that me going over for the interview will speed things up alittle for us!!! I hope, I hope and pray!!! :innocent:

Plus I will get to see my husband!!!!

HAHAHAHAA No, I didn't forget about you guys! I've just been hiding out, getting the apartment ready for the hubby and his stuff and getting all our info together for the interview.

Canada does take awhile, we are now #3 on the VJ list waiting for an interview, we were #13, and word is they are done scheduling February, so we are hoping for a March interview date. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! :innocent: I plan on going with him to the interview as well. I love Montreal! Its such a beautiful city! I've only seen it covered in snow though.. and I'd be perfectly ok seeing it one more time that way. ;)

Here's to us all getting the visas for our S/O's :dance:

yeah, Egypt is wonderful! Only thing though, man it is hot in June!! To be truthfull though, it's not as bad as Florida in the summer time! They don't have the humidity like we do. There actually is wind blowing there!! It's hot air but all the same! I didn't have any trouble with the heat except when we went to see the Pyramids at Giza. That was because there isn't any shade at all out there!!! And we decided to walk up to the pyramids because the mistreatment they show to the horses and camels they want people to ride. It so sad to see those poor animals! So between walking uphill a good mile and being hot and tired, ugh!! I thought I was going to have a heat stroke!!! I am hoping it will be more nice in February!!

How did you manage to get your return to coincide with his one-way? That was the problem I couldn't solve...

Very soon now... Of course, by the time Finn Man gets here, my wife and I will be an old married couple :)

Mark

That blows! I hope you have a speedy resolution to the RFE.

Mark

Well Mark, it took a bit of juggling but I managed! I still had to get a ticket from London to Malta (for me roundtrip) and a one-way for him from Malta to London. In London we catch our Iceland Air flight to Iceland, and the POE is home in Seattle. We even have seats together! I had two windows up and was trying to do it almost simultaneously. Nerve wracking but it worked! I've taken so many trips that I'm becoming an expert...He'd be here sooner (his last day of work is in a little less than two weeks), but he really wanted to visit home in Finland one more time before he moved to the US. I had to give him that, plus I need the extra time to remodel the house!!!

About luggage, you have to collect it wherever you clear Customs. It's easy to recheck like Christeen I think said somewhere. It's usually right outside the door.

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!
