Egypt is a popular holiday destination for Brits. They have occasional terrorist attacks but name a country that doesn't!

Liechtenstein??

Ok be honest. Did you have to look up how to spell that?

I would point out that I went to University in Germany. But I have to be honest and admit:

Finland!!!!!

Ok I'll rephrase that. Name a country that doesn't that anyone would be interested in visiting!

Hey, I have to spend two weeks there this Xmas...with in-laws that barely speak English!!!!

Ideal! You don't have to watch your language. Swear like a trooper (or a secret agent) and they'll never know!

And don't say you HAVE to spend 2 weeks there. Say you are lucky enough to!

You're right Scot! I'm happy to spend two weeks there, cuz I'll be with my hubby and the nicest in-laws ever!

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

Any chance you could get a transfer to another government post? Like the London embassy. It would be nice to turn up from my interview and find it is being conducted by a 1/4 Scot carrot top with a taste for Finnish hunks! You could overlook the fact that I'll turn up drunk in my kilt with my bagpipes under one arm and my favourite sheep under the other. Mmmm. Flossy my cute little sheep she doesn't look half baaaaad in her mini skirt! :hehe:

Wow, I run to the grocery shop and look what you got up to!

I dont know what AR/AP means. They courier the visa to you within 5 days and some folks report getting it before they left thier hotel.

It wont matter because he cannot come until he sells hs house.

AR is additional review or administrative review and AP is administrative Processing...in other words they are doing extra checking up on the beneficiary or petitioner....it is very common in the MENA countries.....

Well that stinks. They have had plenty of time to do checking now!

Yeah, oh well I am sure it is because of national security and also I think because of false representatives. I know a few people who got married and come to find out that their SO was just using the USC for a green card. So, as much as I hate to wait more, if it is just to prove that our marriage and relationship is real, I guess there is no choice. I'll just get to go to Egypt more!!:thumbs:

I don't think I will ever feel safe enough to visit that part of the world. Are you treated ok when you visit? It seems all I ever read is how much Americans are hated over there so I am scared to go.

Egypt is a wonderfull place to go!! Technically, it isn't considered the middle east. That is why it is MENA~~middle east/north africa. Only thing is that it borders with a lot of hostile countries where there is alot of terroristic action going on. I was worried at first to go over there, but I registered with the embassy before I went and they had my itinerary if something was to go on then they could get in touch with me, or vice versa.

The one thing I really noticed, they are very happy with foreigners. Remember, 80% of Egypt's income is from tourism. (kind of like Florida!! :innocent: )

They really look out for tourist. I have never felt as safe than if I was here in the US. In fact I felt safer there than alot of the cities I have been here!! You would not believe how many times we were stopped in the street because of an egyptian man with a american woman! We had to carry our marriage certificate with us everywhere we went!!

When we were on the train from Cairo to Luxor, every time we stopped at a new station, we had to show our tickets AND the marriage license.

Now, on the bad side! Because of me being a foreigner, they gouged the ####### out of the prices for everything! When my husband would hail a taxi, I would have to step away from him while he is flagging one down, because as soon as the taxi drivers saw me, they would double, triple the prices!!! So I learned, I would hang back away from him until he had haggled for the price and when he put his hand on the door to open the taxi, I would jump in! You should have seen how many drivers that were really ticked off!!!!

Well, thanks for bursting my bubble Mr. Scot!

I had an experience on a train in July in Finland with a motorcycle gang dude. It was one of my funniest moments there!

Well cab drivers trying to rip off tourists is certainly not unique to Egypt.lol We had that happen in Boston. Me and my daughter got a room and took a cab one night and the driver assumed as we were at a hotel we were from out of town. I asked where the heck he was going as he literally drove in a circle to increase fare! Good thing you have your hubby to look out for you. My sis worked for Royal Sonesta and they had an amazing resort in Egypt but I read the travel advisory (this was several yrs ago) and I chickened out. It is the places it borders that make it scary to me. But just ask David, I am a big chicken. I hate cities. I am scared in Boston at night, parts of Orlando, New York and even my own town in some places. It just seems like there are a lot more bad people than there ever were. Maybe we just never heard so much about them when we were younger. It's a scary world our kids inherited. It's good to know it is safe for tourists.Have you seen things like pyramids and camels or just been to cities?

We would love a train trip like that. We need to take one in Scotland someday. We did here to New York.

I have a train story beyond all others. It all started when we left my in-laws in July to go back to Helsinki for a night and catch our prospective flights. Little did we know that the train conductor would give absolutely no warning, and while the Finn Man was outside of the train saying goodbye to his parents, the doors closed and the train zoomed off with me and the luggage and no husband with me on the train. I had no cell, no train ticket, hardly any euros...

A motorcycle gang guy offered to help me out, but he literally fell on the floor in a drunken stupor as he was welcoming me to Finland (even though I was leaving Finland)...

More to come...

Our timeline:
