Driver's license

we went to the DDS yesterday and they said I couldn't get a drivers license yet because my i-94 expires in less than 30 days and I haven't received the NOA1 from aos yet. they told me that I could not drive on my Canadian driver's license and I had to get an International Driving Permit from AAA. AAA does not issue IDP's for foreign drivers to drive from the US (neither does CAA). On the Georgia DDS website it says that they recognize foreign licenses yet at the DDS they said they do not.

Have I been bulls*tted or am I SOL?

Joel is there anyway you could take the information of the website and go back down to the Drivers License place?? Obviously someone is wrong either the website or the person who gave you the information, personally it would give me great satisfaction to go back to the office armed with all the information lol

Well I called the local police dept and they said I could only drive on my canadian license for 30 days. Of course, it takes 4 weeks just to get the SSN. So now I have to wait until I get the NOA1 from the AOS. does anyone know if there is an expiration date on that letter?

Well that is interesting because I was told that I could drive up to one year on my Canadian license - and that was by the Georgia Driver's License Office when I went to get my license changed the first time and didn't have enough time left on my I-94 either. I specifically asked about the 30 day limitation and they said I could continue to use my Canadian license, and to come back when I had my proof from immigration that I was legally resident in the US. I went back with my EAD later and had no problems.
