Congratulations km24 on receiving the GC in the mail.

Kelvan, that really sucks about the delays from the fingerprints. Hope you get a quick approval after you submit the police report.

Thanks Greg! Let's keep in touch =)

Yes, I imagine that some - if not all of you - will have stopped reading this forum by then. But Beth and I do appreciate all we have learned from you who have gone before us. Congratulations to all who are already completed. As we are all aware - the next hurdle is in 21 months from the GC. God willing - all our marriages are good ones and we will see you all then again. (Even if we are filing a month or two after some of you!)

On a more personal note: Beth's 11 (almost 12) YO daughter's interview is scheduled an hour before Beth's. Does anyone have any insight into why that might be or what an interview of a pre-teen is like?

I am still here Mike :star: It will be a huge relief for you once you're done with interview & USCIS for 21 months, I'm sure!

I'm not sure how the interview experiences for daughters/teens but perhaps a search around VJ could find you another thread about it?

Good luck to you Mike. I trust your interviews will go well. I'm don't know about interviews of a child. Wonder if they will just interview all of you together anyway? Let us know how your interview goes.

Good luck to gennyangel and DallasJeeper who have their interviews this week.

I wouldn't worry about it, just explain what happened to the IO, mine didn't even ask to see the EAD. When I would call USCIS it would always tell me I am missing a digit so I instead began to choose the option where it says I don't know or don't have my case number and then get transfered to a person and give them the case number.

I see light at the end of the tunnel! I received my interview date today - Wed 3rd March. So can't wait for all this to be over. I'd also like to thank everyone on here in advance for all their help and support. You gorgeous, wonderful, kind Visa Journey people have calmed me down when I've been stressed to the eyeballs. How people get by without this website I'll never know.

By the way, what happens after I get my green card? Do I have to be aware of any up and coming dates? What's the 21 months thing I hear talk of? I looked into naturalization a little bit and still don't know what to do about it. Does anyone know how long it takes and the costs etc? What's everyone planning?

JoJo X

Your first GC (assuming you have not been married for better that two years) is a restricted Green Card. The card is good for 24 months. Ninety days before it expires you can and should file to remove the restrictions and receive a ten-year GC. Ninety days equals 3 months. Twenty-four months minus 3 months equals 21 months.

After that you have a choice. To renew the GC every 10 years or file for citizenship (which a spouse can do after having a CG for 3 years). Check the Wiki for the costs but you can assume that the fees may change in the intervening time.

Thanks for clearing that up Mike. So the only thing I need to watch out for is 3 months prior to the expiry date...? Yes, this is my first time married and my first green card. I'm looking forward to not dealing with paperwork for a while. XX
