Hey everyone!!! Guess what, WE WERE APPROVED!!!  My hubby and I have been on cloud nine since we walked out of the immigration office! We keep saying to each other "Can you believe we're done? We're done! We're done!"

Anyway, here's how our day went:

Our interview was at the Philadelphia, PA office @ 8:30AM. We had stayed overnight at a hotel within walking distance the night before to ensure that we wouldn't hit traffic. We got up at 6AM this morning (neither of us are morning people so this was difficult lol) and started getting ready. We got to the office by 8AM and went through security (they move very fast but are generally nice). The IO is on the third floor so we went to wait in their big waiting room. There were only a few other people there and most of them seemed to be for family petitions rather than marriage petitions. We handed our interview letter to the front desk, she took it, stamped it, and kept it. While we waited we saw one other couple who were called in before us. They were separated since the IO called in one and then the other. While the woman was waiting behind us I asked her how it was. She said she was the USC and they grilled her husband more than her but that it was nothing to worry about. After her husband came back out and they left we waited about 5 more minutes and then the same IO who had interviewed them came back and called us. I just assumed he was going to separate us too but we both went back into his office. These are the questions he asked:

Am I a USC? Was I born in the US? I said yes to both

Asked to see both of our birth certificates & passports

Asked my husband what country he was from

Asked how we met

Had each of us met the other's parents? Also asked each of us to say their names

Asked what our address was & phone numbers

Did we have any kids?

Asked for pictures & evidence that we are married.

We provided him all of our evidence (we had join bank accounts, joint lease, joint cell phone plan, joint health insurance, joint car insurance, joint credit card). He seemed impressed with all the evidence and took copies of each to keep.

After all the questions he seemed to relax a bit and asked if we had any questions. I asked him (since I'm the beneficiary) if I'm allowed to change jobs and/or stop working when we have kids. He said "I don't really know but no one will check so you will be ok" He asked if we had been married for longer than 2 years and when we said no he said "You'll get a conditional GC in the mail within 1 month" so I said, "Does that mean we're approved?" and he said Yes! I asked if he was going to stamp my husband's passport and he said they were told they can't do that anymore. He didn't take the AP or EAD but said he would be entering the update into the computer by this afternoon or tomorrow.

In general, he was a nice guy (serious during the question asking but relaxed before and after) and it went really well!! I was so glad he looked at the documents I spent months preparing and he did mention "Thanks for being so prepared, it makes life easy." He paged briefly through our wedding album and that was that!!

Now we're DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THANK YOU for everyone's support (F)

Ok so I have questions, after reading again the Welcoming PR notice email I've got from USCIS on the 7th Jan, it talks about ADIT Processing, see below:

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident.

On January 7, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

*What does that mean?

*And also just wondering what does "Return Service Requested" means.

It is written on the envelope of Welcome Notice mail I received at the other day.

Does it have to do with me confirming anything to USCIS/CSC?

Anyone..?

Some good news at last...

- On January 8, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I-131 APPLICATION FOR USCIS TRAVEL DOCUMENT.

- On January 13, 2010, we ordered production of your new card. (Employment Authorization)

So glad, that took ages and ages. Oh, happy new year folks, hope everyone is enjoying 2010 so far. I checked my case status for the green card but it still says requesting evidence and I sent that way back early December. My husband will be delighted when I tell him I'll soon be able to work, I haven't worked since April 2009 and that for me is just weird. Anyway, I'll keep ya's posted.

Hi SnS,

That question on ADIT came up on the other October forum today. It looks like standard wording on all welcome emails/letters. From what I've read, it is an old term and can be disregarded. Just need to wait to receive the GC in the mail. It stands for: ADIT Alien Documentation, Identification & Telecommunications System (ADIT Photo's no longer used by the USCIS ).

Return Service Requested on an envelope means that the sender wants the postal service to notify them if the addressee has moved and has a forwarding address. Many businesses use that to automatically be updated when someone moves.

Anyone..?

ADIT is an obsolete term for biometrics. It stands for Alien Documentation, Identification, and Telecommunication system. Apparently, in some cases, or under older procedures that are no longer relevant, some cases do/did their biometrics after approval. Don't worry about it. It won't affect you. Remember that some of the paragraphs used in these form letters were composed, literally, decades ago, and it's a big hairy regulatory deal to change them. So they don't :)

Return Service Requested means that, if the letter is undeliverable, for example, if they have a bad address, the letter will be returned to them, instead of being forwarded or held at the local post office. That's part of why it's so important to keep your address up to date during this process: because the post office, at USCIS's request, won't forward USCIS correspondence. Since you received the letter, it doesn't affect you.

Congratulations!
