Correctly? Like wear a spiked glove?

No, like with one of those kid's plastic golf clubs. Like me dear old mum.

No - the key is to leave no marks that Child Protective Services could find.

What I think this has right is: if you tell a child he/she is an idiot over and over again; accompanied with beating him/her (call it spanking, i call it what it is: beating); he/she will have exactly that view of him/herself. Nothing new here.

exactly

I so agree with this too. The spankings of the last generation and the spanking of THIS generation are far different. Today's "spankings" are more in the way of child abuse. I'm not one that spanks my child...but that's my prerogative. Incidentally we have no behaviour problems that would even merit a spanking. Too many parents today spank out of anger...screaming at their child god knows what...and that's where the low IQ can come into play. JMHO of course.

Kids stop their bad behaviours when they understand that it is a wrong behaviour. Spanking does not clarify that in a child's mind so the spanking is irrelevant as a correction. It's only purpose therefore is as a punishment. A parent is very lazy if they can't find a suitable punishment without resorting to violence.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Not at all. But spanking can be abusive. If a parent finds themselves spanking their child often then I think the family needs counseling.

I agree, if you are spanking often.... seek counseling because you are not doing it right!

I, for once, have to agree with Danno. If you're doing it correctly, you don't have to do it very often.

....and what is your opinion of spankings being done correctly?

Niels, you liked her so much you had to quote your own post, just so you could see her again.

I am not even entertaining the slightest notion of getting into that on here.

An approved spanking is one where the child is thoroughly scared of the adult that administered it. If the child isn't frightened it serves no purprose.

Ah but you can definitely say it needs to be done correctly. Kinda like a parent telling their child "because I said so" without a reason for justifying anything.
