Hello, Does anybody know if I meet the requirement for I-864 to sponsor my wife and son? On my Tax return I made 45k 2006, 57k 2007, and 17.5k in 2008 (unemployment benefits) I just started a new job last week, I can get a letter from my boss but no paycheck history for this year. I want to ask my dad to be my joint sponsor he made 26k in 2006 and claimed my mom as dependent. Do you think I qualify or do I need a co-sponsor? I live with my dad same address. Thank you for your help.

Current income is what is most important, not past earnings.

For a household of 3 you will need to have a current annualized income of at least 22,887. By the time of the interview you will have some paychecks under your belt to go along with your employer letter. If your income is enough, no co-sponsor is needed.

If income is short and dad earns enough that together you qualify then he would complete an I-864A for himself.
