soon i hope i will levae europe for good to leave in the usa. i will take my 2 cats with me, but want to let them travel in the bigger kennels in the extra room which is provided for them. there they got more peace and i cant handle 2 boxes and lagguage baks and a small kid all alone as handlaguage. i am worried then i will arrive in atlanta, coz have to go through POE and i guess it will take me a good wile until i will be through coz i enter on a k1 visa. what happens with my cats during all this time? where will they put them saftley? will they take care for them? do i have to take them like my other bags from the laguageband and bring them through customs myself? what, if it will take extra long at the immigration and i will miss the connection fligth? will the cats wait for me as well and travel in the same plane later on? so many questions and fears.... :help:

any experience and ideas? thanks alot!

Ring the airline and ask what their procdure is.

In London (heathrow) they get sent to the animal reception center at the airport and are checked over to make sure they haven't suffered any ill effects during their travels; the owners are then phoned (or given a number by the airline to call) once they are thru security / customs so they can go collect their animals.

I have no idea if that's the SAME procedure at your POE but your airline WILL know.

If you're going to be travelling before September, I would definitely check with the airline and make sure they don't have a pet embargo going on.

During the summer months most airlines enact a pet embargo which would prohibit you from checking your pets into the baggage hold. This is becuase those pets would have to sit out on the hot tarmac and in a very warm baggage hold while on the ground and it could be very cruel to them and dangerous as well. The reason they have this embargo is becuase some people's pets have died in the heat. (especially in the southern states - like Georgia)

Here is a link about bringing pets from foreign countries:

You would need to have a health certificate from their veterinarian for each cat, and they will be inspected upon arrival.

well, delta has a pet embargo up to the 15. of september, thats the reason i might fly on the 17. or so.. i only hope then it wont be anymore so hot in atlanta....and, they will take care for the animals, during changing of plane.... and wont get lost if i cant take them that fast when i go to change the plane..

My cousin brought my dog from Venezuela... He had to go to Tampa, so my husband went down to Miami airport to pick her up and bring her to Baltimore. They had yet another stop in Charlotte NC... and she was fine! International flights don't usually allow you to have your small pets in cabin, but in local flights they do, if the container is small enough to be under your legs. I recommend you to get soft carriers so you can be closer to your cats in the local flight. However, they DO take care of the pets, I wouldn't worry very much about it. Good luck :D
