I've been trying to find information about marrying a Mexican citizen in Mexico, if you are a USC. Not sure if this is the right forum. (Sorry, if it's not.) I'm not having much luck finding information. I was wondering if anyone has been through this process? Can you fill me in on the process? (Possibly looking at CR1)

Thanks for any help. :)

Hello,

I married my husband in January of 2009 in Mexico City D.F. , it was not an easy task, I actually had to use a lawyer to help us. The Instituto Nacional de Imigracion in Mexico requires that a US citizen applies for permission to marry a Mexican national, this has to be done in person and a fee of approximately $250.00 dollars must be paid.

Once you get this permit you can arrange to be married by a judge depending on what district your future husband resides in or what city. You birth certificate and any divorce decrees must be translated to spanish, you must take certified originals and they must have a seal called the Apostille, which you can get from the secretary of state.

I hope this helps, I don't know where in Mexico you plan to marry if it's in Mexico City I can give the name of the lawyer that helped us, she's very efficient and cheap.
