So,u've been thru alot during this process and u are finally at home with ur loved one in US.

You are coming from a different part of the world and you have a non-american first name where people can't prounance/spell/guess etc...

Should u change ur first name for a better adoptation into your new life?

Are you willing to change?

Is it going to make it better during the job search?

When my wife applied for her Social Security card, I asked if we could use her middle name only (she uses that, not her first name), and we were told that she is required to keep her first name officially.

However, in regular practice, you can pick an "American" first name and use that. I know of many Chinese professors and doctors who call themselves by an Anglicized first name -- for example, H.-C. Henry Wang. An Indian friend of mine (real first name, Vivek) chose "Victor."

It will definitely make things better in a job-search. You will probably have an easier time making friends, too, if you can introduce yourself with a first name that people understand and can relate to.

If you have a foreign first name, consider various Anglicized names that look or sound like your "real" name, and pick one for use in your everyday life.
