Hey, guys!

A lot of people seem to have trouble pronouncing my last name. It is supposed to end in -ski, but in my passport it is -schi (which people here can not say correctly). I was thinking about changing it to match the pronunciation. How do I go about it? We also happened to have our interview on the 5th of October, just fiy.

Thank you, all!

I think you should wait to do it. Or, don't legally change your name, just socially change it. Seems like little things tend to get blown up into big things in this process.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

More detailed time line in profile.

Depending on your state this can be a big deal. You can change your name legally and easily to any form of your name or your husbands name. You want to change the name to something different entirely. Many immigrants did this 100 years ago for the same reason or because they couldn't write and the immigration officers would suggest replacement names. Worked pretty weel in the era of poor documentation. Now, no.

The "social change" mentioned above works pretty well for anything but formal and legal documents. Just tell people you "go by". I had a teacher in school with a long Russian name and everyone in the world called him "Mr. P"
