Hi -

our interview is next week, and this has just been nagging me a bit and I wanted to double-check. The letter asks for "government issued photo ID", and my husband doesn't have a NY driver's license yet. He does have an EAD card, social security card, German passport, international driver's license and EU driver's license... I'm guessing the EAD card will suffice, but am I right?

I'm also wondering whether we can bring our daughter. She's 9 months old, and it would actually be more convenient for us to bring her than to try to get someone to watch her... the letter mentions that we don't have to bring our children, but doesn't say we should not. What do you think? Thanks! :)

7/14/09 -- Receipts arrive.

7/16/09 -- Can pull up case with receipt numbers on USCIS website.

7/25/09 -- RFE. Our joint sponsor did not provide proof of citizenship or enough proof of his income.

8/17/09 -- Received AP document.

8/19/09 -- Biometrics appointment.

8/28/09 -- Received EAD card.

9/29/09 -- Interview - APPROVED!!!

10/3/09 -- Welcome letter.

10/9/09 -- Green card in hand!

I think you'll be fine with the passport as ID. I don't know about your daughter, but I guess it's ok and she is so young... I wouldn't leave her at home.

I'm just posting because it's too funny, we share the same wedding date, we got married May 26th 2006!

06-04-2009: received 2 ! welcome letters

06-08-2009: received 3rd welcome letter

06-25-2009: Greencard in mail

07-06-2009: received SSN

07-13-2009: got my DL!

Not sure about the baby, but when we went for our interview, my husband did not have his Florida license ( we were still recovering from the $2000 immigration costs LOL) when she asked for ID she asked us why he did not have it yet, & we just explained it was an expense we had not NEEDED as of that time & she seemed ok with it. Just make sure he takes his passport, EAD, & a honest explanation regarding why he does not have one, you will be fine!

In this case, I think the passport is the most important document to bring. But bring also the EAD card. I don't think the foreigner driver's license will make difference for them. Usually they recognize as "government IDs" only passports.

If you bring the baby, I would suggest bringing a copy of her birth certificate. I don't think it will be a problem to bring her, just give an explanation if they ask, ex: "you didn't have anyone to watch her, she is too young, she is breastfeeding", whatever fits your case. Be honest, always.

Edit: by the way, I didn't have a NY driver's license or a NY non-driver ID when I went to my interview.
