I certainly wouldn't use the 'N' word. It's degrading to people of a different ethnic background. Although you do hear them calling each other a 'N' that's totally up to them.

What if you want to degrade them?

I will never use that word, however, I work at a community center working with youth and they use it all the time. While people slip and call me 'dawg' more frequently, they also have slipped and called me the "n-word" several times.

Unfortunately, I've kind of gotten desensitized to it and it takes too much energy to address it each time I hear it. However, if I were a teacher, there would be consequences for saying it in the classroom.

Had a convo with one person about the fact that I'd never, ever say the word and he asked me why. Said that nobody would take issue with my using it since I have a "G-pass." Leads me to believe that there would be major issues if they heard it used by someone white.

It's just a word, who determinded that the so called cuss words were bad??? These words were not around a few 100 years ago so why all the hopla about cussing? As for the word word "***" it can be used to describe a certain kind of person, just like the words cracker, honkey, white bread, beaner, spic,######,chink so on and so forth. Big fuckin deal they are just words.

This issue of race is a bunch of #######. I read about this ####### all the time, how blacks, not all blacks but many of them, can't get over the fact they were slaves and are always bringing it up. Geeze this was 100's of years ago, I didn't do it to them, matter of fact nobody alive did it to them and yet they expect everybody to feel sorry for them. My god get over it.

First off lets do away with the exaggeration. Slavery was ended conclusively in the USA in 1865 - that's barely 150 years by my count, so "hundreds" would be a slight exaggeration on your part. While the end of slavery isn't within living memory, the civil rights movement certainly is - and it is frankly undeniable that the movement in the 50s and 60s can be entirely separated from events of the previous century.

Its all very well to say that people should just get over these things, but it isn't that simple. Getting outraged at low-class blacks using slavery as a means of enabling their own laziness (which happens) doesn't alter the fact that there is a pretty pronounced disparity between blacks and whites on a number of levels and unless you're prepared to make rank generalisations based on dodgy stereotypes, the only way to explain it is that the inequalities in our society have a lot to do with our societies history.

I don't think anyone 'should' use the 'n' word. People do, and for all kinds of reasons. What is for sure is, that it is not a word one would expect someone in an authoritative position would use pejoratively and there should be some sort of sanction for so doing.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
