Like the "F" word, the "N" word has lost any meaning in the word itself, it has become context driven.

However, like the former word that usually implies fornication in some manner, the latter word usually implies poor, uneducated, and subservient.

I don't think it is a national shame, and I certainly don't think it should be illegal, but it certainly has some very negative connotations. I don't allow ANYONE to use it in my classes. I don't have one set of rules for one group of students and another set of rules for other students. However, I do think it is up to individuals how they want to use the word outside of my classroom or similar settings. I don't like hearing it. I hope my daughter never uses it.

I certainly wouldn't use the 'N' word. It's degrading to people of a different ethnic background. Although you do hear them calling each other a 'N' that's totally up to them.
