I am one of those that can memorize a map but do write down the final address and phone number. Found any mapping program on the internet to be at least two blocks off and can't find a building if it's behind another building so typical in the larger cities. Ha, was looking for an implement dealer in a neighboring town, all the maps were six miles off target, dealer was on a county road six miles out of town, but many county roads also use street names. So I called first and knew exactly where he was.

Whether these GPS units have any better mapping programs, that I don't know. I do know maps change with constant building, would really hate to lay out a couple of hundred bucks for one of these things and shortly have to pay another 80 bucks for a map upgrade, most seem to do that, also firmware problems with these things. And in large cities with skyscrapers and all that, can lose your GPS signal, most depend on at least three satellites but preferably four. Lose one or two and you are dead, you have to know where you are going. With aircraft GPS, you key in the longitude and latitude and high above these obstructions. But still require backup as a satellite can go out at anytime. Talking about 10,000 buck receivers, not these cheap hundred buck ones. All programming has to be done before the trip and that includes traveling by car. Did play with some with a touch screen, some of those can drive you nuts.

Yet another problem is mounting them, I sure don't like cords hanging all over the place, and these LCD screens wash out if the sun can hit them, even run into that with my kids aftermarket radio, had to pull over just to change the damn radio station while cupping my hand to block out the sun, hell, just travel at night. From reading reviews, those clips always drop your GPS on the floor, that would be kind of difficult to look at. Do have a GPS program in my Axim 5, drove me nuts, voice would come on with every intersection telling me to drive straight ahead. The best way to use it was to have my wife hold it, too heavy to hang on the dash.

Also have MS streets and maps, can upgrade for free, but requires a laptop to use, not bad, but awkward in any vehicle for mounting. Daughter got GPS in her vehicle, but had to run to her dealer once a month for upgrades and her credit card.

Another problem I have found with these things is routing, can add 60 miles to a short trip but routing you to the nearest interstate when all you have to do is to take a county road directly to where you are going. And if you do take a shortcut, GPS throws a fit, so you pull the cigar lighter plug and throw the damn thing out the window. Cigar plus is yet another fault, worse possible connector to use in the world. With any of these contraptions, end up making my own power cord.

I haven't purchased one yet, just seeing #######, and you still have to know where you are going.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 265WT.....wide-screen with lifetime traffic (WT). I call her Aimee.... because she aims me in the right direction. :hehe: She's awesome. On a long trip when you don't know where you are and you need a bio break, you ask Aimee and she tells you where the closest one is. Same goes for food, airports, shops.... all that good stuff.

I found it interesting that she couldn't find a specific new address, once, (though she took me to the closest area) but after I'd been to that address she knew exactly where it was. I didn't know she could remember things she didn't know to begin with!

The traffic feature is awesome too. Shows you exactly where the problems are, and your best options. And if you get lost she recalculates and gets you right back on track.

.. I am no lady

I could have told you that

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

TomTom and Garmin are the two leaders.

All depends on how much you pay. Their good models cost close to $300 but are well worth the money.
