Hi guys, Long time reader first time Poster...i was wondering if somebody can clarify my question.

I am a Lawful Permanent Resident (based on my marriage) since Aug 2007. I came to US as F-1 student back in 1999 I was 21 years of age (Date of birth: November 16, 1978), my VISA expired in 2001 and my I-20 was out of date, so technically I was out of status for a period of time when I was still under 26 years of age. I checked the SSS.gov and saw that I am registered in their database as of January 18, 2005 and saw a selective service number assigned to me (Don't remember doing that). On January 18, 2005 I was over 26 years of age. I am really confused regarding this, would this be an issue when I file my N-400.

My husband does not have the same situation as you - he entered the US with a K-1 Fiance visa but was between 18-25 when he did so. We did not register with the SSS but I think when his permanent residence status was approved by USCIS they register you automatically. My husband is now over 25 but the officer did ask my husband for proof of SSS during his N-400 interview. We just went to the website www.sss.gov and printed the results page of our search for his name showing that he was registered. The officer considered this acceptable.

The good news is that some how you were registered so I would suggest printing out the proof of that and bringing it with you to your interview in the event that they ask you about it.

Good luck!
