I don't know if anyone had the chance to watch this show. I followed it while in Canada. A GREAT exercise to change the school lunches, this in London. Worth the look. Kids did not even know what a broccoli looks like. No, i am not kidding.

communism.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I don't think its just about PE in school, though that is important. When I was growing up my friends and I played outside just as much as inside. Now you see fewer and fewer kids playing outside. I realize we are more safety conscious, but there are parks and other recreational places parents can take their kids to get out and get more exercise. Its really a balance of nutrition and exercise.

Yes, this is true, too. Kids are more sedentary these days... (a lot of people are...) Too much tv & computer, not enough play!

I think part of the reason why is that we have become increasingly more suspicious and scared of our neighbors....think they're going to hurt our children...so we keep them locked up inside the house most of the time.

It doesn't help that PE curricula are also being reduced in the larger school districts.

Yep. My son's school had to cut it this year. Those who think the public schools are failing are doing a pretty good job of making sure they will. It's sad.

No problem. To make up for lost PE time, Simply hook up an exercise bike to his video game system and the tv. He will have to use pedal power to generate electricity. Kinda like a hamster in a wheel, hehe.

We limit his time to playing video games to weekends and then only for a couple of hours. Kids need to be active more than just when they are home. PE has benefits beyond just physical fitness, like helping children concentrate better while in class.

In this particular case, I would definitely call it abuse. Over the years, in several states, I have had preteen and teenage clients referred to me for counseling by the Department of Family and Children Services who were involved due to the children being obese. These kids and their families were also linked to nutritionists and other medical professionals. In those cases, DCFS did not pursue criminal charges, but rather tried to address the issue and change the unhealthy patterns in the family.

I suspect that, in the case Amby posted, DFCS pursued criminal charges only after many attempts to offer services to this mother with no changes made.

Interesting insight.

I remember eating breakfast than watching some cartoons in the morning, going outside to play, Mom would call me in for lunch, then it was back out until dinner. Nowadays I see all my little cousins just sitting around on facebook, myspace, playing some video game or just texting from the couch.

Have a new diet, remember when your mom said don't eat they tiny cookie, it will spoil your appetite?

My new diet is giving the kid that tiny cookie so he/she will lose their appetite, not nearly the calories in a tiny cookie as in a full meal.

Yeah, it's true, and that's a shame, too. What happened to us?

i hope we can at least move to a place with a yard by the time the little one is able to go out and play. Part of me wants to move back to the neighborhood where i grew up, which is very safe... Or even, back to Maroc... where kids still play outside all day and the whole neighborhood keeps an eye on them...

Yep, i remember those days...

And remember when your mom wouldn't let you leave the table till you ate your vegetables...

I have to say yes.

The reason why I poke fun of fatty is to push their anger towards getting their life back in shape. I know that they may be depressed or have lots of self-pity. By making fun of them, it would be counter productive. Unless, if that person is from Full Metal Jacket.

Apparently, they are not the least claustrophobic or arsonophobic, if trapped in a tight spot due to an accident, no chance of getting out, and fat is highly flamable can even explode into flames. Plus carrying all that dead weight around, that has got to be tiring. But apparently, the only cure is to plop down in front of the ####### tube, and eat.
