Yes, technically you're supposed to wait until you get package 3 in the mail, package 4 is downloaded off the 'net, and all the requirements/ clearances/ medical/ etc. are turned in at the actual interview not submitted beforehand like in a lot of embassies. Because it's downloaded from the embassy website, we found out about it (here, thanks again visajourney) had it about a month after we sent our I-129 and started gathering all our required clearances, documents, etc.

However, once you have the MNL number from NVC that's the same case number they use to set the appointment, so if you wait a sufficient amount of time for the embassy to receive the packet from NVC and mark it received, you can set an appointment on the hotline. Without waiting for packet three (thanks again visajourney). Of course they charge to use the appointment-setting line. $18 US. And if you're impatient like us you may pay that fee a couple of times until the embassy shows the packet received.

If you're worried about the $18 I guess you would wait until you got your packet in the mail so you knew for sure you would only call one time.

Some consulates have very quick turnover times, some consulates allow the petitioner to attend the interview, and some are very slow and very difficult. Just depends. As long as your ducks are in a row, MNL can be straight forward. If they are not in a row, you have a crying fiancee... But I am only sending out good vibes!!!!

I was trying to try the DHL reference tracking to see if anything was mailed out in Jan.

I used EXP 04 JAN 2010A, EXP 05 JAN 2010A, and EXP 06 JAN 2010A but got no shipments. Would January be abbreviated differently? I tried the dates with out the zeros in front of the digits too. Would the NVC really not be mailing shipments out these last few days? Seems unlikely. I did get the list of shipments when I used the EXP 28 DEC 2009A that was stated a few posts back but I was just curious about this month.

Any ideas on what to enter in the track by reference for the month of January?

Make sure your date range is correct. Sounds like the same thing I did until I realized the date I entered in the reference was not within the date range underneath of the reference box.

I've got a question.

We received our NOA2 via email 2 days ago (thanks to all those who congratulated, I truly appreciate it) but not the paper one yet. I was wondering what's next.

I mean, do we have to wait for something from the US consulate in Italy, or should we start calling NVC or the US consulate itself?

When do we call the consulate to schedule my interview? after we have received this famous packet 3? and what's packet 4?

Sorry for this bunch of questions, I'm just anxious to have everything done as soon as possible.

You can call the NVC at the same time you receive your paper copy or 3-4 business days after your approval to get your NVC case # and verify they have received your packet. After it's processed at NVC you will get a paper copy from NVC, too, saying they received your approved paperwork and will be soon forwarding it on to your particular embassy. That mailing will also have your case number, so you don't really NEED to call NVC... The NVC has a live operator I believe it was 7 a.m. to 12 midnight eastern time, and they are super friendly (or at least the two times I called they were).

Check the regional forums for what the next steps are at your particular embassy, it's all handled by the embassy after the NVC/ Dept. of State check.

And thanks for the good wishes for her interview, I'm starting to sweat a bit now... but at least I'll know soon.
