I'm curious as to what people know about these background checks other than what's written in the wiki. Personal experience?

Like, what do they look for, what are they checking? I'm pretty sure I already have some sort of government background check/file in the last couple of years (my brother is a commissioned officer in the US Army and from what I understand they look into the entire immediate family before commissioning). Would that speed up the process? Or just cause more problems? Or do they do an entirely new and different one for the visa process?

Together: 10/10/2001 - current

The Process, Part 1

09/09/09 - I-129F sent certified mail express to CSC.

09/10/09 - I-129F received and signed for by INS Express Mail.

09/11/09 - NOA1 notice date.

It will make no difference in the process for you. People with high security clearence often take longer as they must mor ethoroughly investigate the fiancee...or so we are told.

The check national and international criminal records and wanted lists. If your name is a "hit" they use the biographcal data on the G-325a to separate you from the bad guy. Background checks are (or can be( done at any stage of the process and take anywhere from a few seconds to a few weeks.
