THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You just made my day!! This info has gotten us off to a great start.

Now all we have to decide is when is the best time for us to send in our I-130 form and get this process started if we are hoping to move in August 2010.... :)

You're welcome!

This thread might at least give you a general idea of timelines. Montreal timeline to interview thread

There are only three people on that list who have filed DCF (you can spot them as it says DCF next to their name) - one took ten months from I-130 submitted to interview, one took 4 months and one took 5 months.

Montreal has slowed down somewhat in the last couple of months, but you will see that from the table. Keep in mind the table is set up for people not filing DCF, so for general times from having submitted all paperwork and waiting for an interview, have a look at the "completed at NVC" date to see who is still waiting and how long they have been waiting so far.

Hey,

One more question for you... Do you think we should wait until after Feb when our kid is born? Since we are intending on filing for Dual citizenship for him/her we wouldn't need to include it in our application would we? (but it would technically be another dependent...) hmmm.... Oooo do you think that would also prove our intentions of moving to the USA? Why else would we get dual citizenship for our child? lol

Also, do you know if we can file the I-130 in Calgary? We need to go there in Feb/March to get the dual citizenship for our child anyway so we could always do that at the same time....

Yes you can file the I-130 in Calgary.

I don't know if the U.S. citizenship registration would really be considered evidence - but what the heck, I would go ahead and include it!

Your dependant (new baby) will be included for determining your household size for the affidavit of support.

Awesome!! Thanks so much!

Do you know if there are any other fees besides the $355 for the I-130 form? I can't find any info on filing fees for the DS form...

$355.00 for the DS-230, if you do DCF you will pay this on the day of the interview. Also a $45 immigrant visa security surcharge, not sure if you pay that when submitting the I-130 or DS-230, can't remember

Also the fee for the medical is around $250 or so.

fees are here http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1263.html

Also, do you know if everyone has an interview? Have you ever heard of someone being approved without one?

Oh well, at least I will get to see the country one last time before I leave lol

And my hubby hasn't had the chance to see either Vancouver or Montreal yet so that's a plus. We'll get in a couple more mini vacations before we move.

Thanks so much for all your help! I'd be lost without it! :D

Does anyone know if, once your application is approved and you are able to land, if you can re-enter canada right away or if you have to reside in the USA for a specific length of time?

We are just wondering because we will have a house to sell. If it's not sold by the time our 6 month deadline is up (to land in the US after approval) then I'm hoping I can land and then just come right back up until the house is sold...

Does anyone know how this works or where I can find info about this?

Thanks a million!!!

You can do this, I have seen this question a few times in the Canada forum. Some Canadians cross the border every day for work and still maintain their residency in the U.S.

The key is to not be out of the country too long. If you go back to Canada for a month or two, probably not a problem, if you go back for a year, that could be a problem.

More info here (page 10)

Maintaining Your Permanent Resident Status

There are some things you must do to maintain your permanent resident status. These are also important to remember if you plan to apply for U.S. citizenship in

the future.

• Don’t leave the United States for an extended period of time or move to another country to live there permanently.

• File federal, state, and, if applicable, local income tax returns.

• Register with the Selective Service, if you are a male between the ages of 18 and 26.

• Give your new address to DHS.
