I was curious as to when you can put and give your wife your last name? Is this after she arrives in the USA and before you apply for the SS card?

Just currious as to when and how this takes place?

Thank you

It's usually easiest to do before she arrives, and before the interview so that she can change the name in her passport and receive a green card and social security card in her married name. If she changes her name after she arrives she'll have to pay for a new green card and apply for a name change with social security and most likely a new passport...

Naturalization

Interview: 10/07/2013

Oath: 01/23/2014

DONE!

This is done with the paperwork she will need to file for the Cr-1, change the name at this point? also her chinese passport?

thanks

It's whichever passport she'll be presenting at the embassy, so most likely yes, her Chinese passport. It is easiest if she assumes the name during the visa process and prior to POE, but not impossible to change later.

Does your SO even want to change her name? Name changing is not common in China, most people after married never change their name, and children would receive the fathers family name. Wife usually retains her family name.

My SO and me laugh at this all the time when I put her given name with my family name (just sounds wierd), and we have no plans of changing her name. I also think her parents would be unhappy if she changed her family name.

Thanks for the input, I am just thinking it would be better for all paperwork to include my last name, it really doesnt matter to me, my last name would fit with her full name doesnt sound strange. But just currious as to how and when this is done, or not done.

Thanks
