the "betchin" or more correctly "vetsin" that you're referring to is actually what we call MSG or monosodium glutamate. It accounts for lots of the amazing tastes in many popular asian dishes (although many of the main stream restaurants "no longer use it"). Just thought i'd add that bit of info in case you didn't already know LOL =P Anyway, you should just be able to find it in any asian market near your area. I buy it at a local oriental store near my house here in Texas. GOODLUCK with that bro!

I think AJINOMOTO is obsolete (can't find the right word, hehe). I'm no longer using it, as MSG is not really good for our health (well, according to what i have read) You can find alternative spices for ur wifey's dishes. Yeah, she can use Magic Sarap or Knorr. In California, there's a Sea Food Market where you can find almost all kind of Filipino stuff. Maybe you know someone from Cali who can buy you Ajinomoto and ship it to your house. Well, i think that's the least thing that you can do =)

Hello, :) I think it is really in an asian food store, I didn't try to look for that though, because I am not using MSG or vetsin, nor magic sarap.. Actually, if you will know how to timing when you're cooking on meat, sea foods or vegetables, the tastes of those foods will come out naturally, you don't need anything else to make it tasty :D Just my thought..

I agree. Hahahaha! I always buy a lot of it when me and my husband go to a Filipino store, then stock it in my cabinet. It usually last for 2 months.

You can use kikkoman as substitute, it gives same taste at the end except if you are cooking clear or white base dishes.

In many non ethnic grocery stores it is sold under the trade name Accent, it is in a tall cylinder similar to a container of salt but narrower.
