birth certificate required?

Hi

According to the guides, I (the foreign spouse) can use a copy of my passport instead of a birth certificate for the I-130 package, though am I correct in saying I can't do the same for the I-485 package?

Is a birth certificate absolutely necessary? If yes I'll have to ask my parents to go to the city hall tomorrow to get one for me, which would delay things again... GAH!

Unless, its not recorded, I think its a requirement. Delaying your submission would be advisable rather than an un-necessary RFE at a later on stage.

Yes, you need your birth certificate for I-485, not I-130. There are alternatives to the birth certificate such as: early medical records, school records,church records, affidavits from family members, but usually you have to get at least 2 of these things to substitute for the BC, so if there is no issue obtaining a birth certificate, you should definitely go with the BC, cuz USCIS are really picky about that, they REALLY PREFER you to have a birth certificate.

Most of the townhalls in the Netherlands give you the oppertunity to order the birthcertificate online. It saves you the trip to go over there, it's mailed to the mailing address you submit. It took for me about 4 days. Make sure you obtain the birthcertificate from the townhall where your birth was registered, not the townhall of the city where you are currently living (unless that is the same place).
