I had a discussion with my husband earlier about this. My mother-in-law has a friend who overstayed after his H1-B was not renewed, for about 2 years I think. He got married to a USC, filed for AOS and got approved a few months back. He wants to fly outside the country and is concerned because somebody else told him he will get a ban after coming back in because of his overstay.

In my understanding he wouldn't have problems since he already has a green card, and can travel outside the US without complications, correct? I don't know where the friend got his information but I think he may have misunderstood and was referring to traveling with the AP  Thanks for your help!

bans for previous overstays affect NON-residents... upon issuance of the GC (thus becoming a permanent resident) all previous overstays became "moot"

YMMV

I don't see any problem for him to travel internationally.
