Will this be a problem at interview?

Hello to All,

I just mailed off my N-400. I may have made a mistake. We left on a cruise from San Diego to Ensanada, Mexico for one day in July. I forgot to list the trip out of the U.S. on part 7 of the N-400 form. My foreign passport was never stamped, in or out of the U.S. Will this be a problem at the interview, or will I be able to explain the forgotten trip at that time? Please help.

Thanks,

Evan and Meaw

Hi Sherose (Evan and Meaw),

In answer to your question: Don't worry about forgetting to mention that trip you took out of the USA for a day to Mexico (which does not require a visa..hence no passport stamps), especially more so that you already sent in your application. However, you did give the border officials your passport and other travel documents during your travels, so they might or might not have that on some computer record somewhere, and you cannot lie about such.

What I would recommend is that during the interview, if they do ask about such day trips, just tell them about it (and provide extra proof if need be), and say that forgot to mention it on the form, since it only says to list trips more than 24 hours. It won't make much of a difference really, as they are more concerned about longer trips out of the country (being out of the country for more than 6 months) to determine if you meet the 'continuous residency' requirement.

If it makes you feel any better, I took many trips (some more than 24 hours, some less than 24 hours) to Canada, and my Canadian passport was never stamped (since I'm a Canadian citizen..no visa or passport stamps required), and have no other proof of such trips as we drove there by car ourselves. So for my trips, I just explained such on a separate piece of paper with my application, and will explain more during the interview, if they ask further about such.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your immigration journey too.

Ant

Hi Ant,

Thank you for your quick response. You have put me somewhat as ease. I think I will gather everything I have regarding that cruise and take it with me to the interview and if asked about the trip will provide the documentation. Anything else I should do?

Peace, Evan and Meaw
