Online Case Status after RFE

My basic question is: How soon should I see an update to my status after I respond to an RFE?

Just over a week ago (last Sunday), I mailed the response to an RFE, and the USPS indicates that it was signed for on Wednesday. But when I check the case status online, it still says:

Request for Evidence

On June 30, 2009, we mailed a notice requesting additional evidence or information in this case I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the requested information. This case will be in suspense until we receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once we receive the requested evidence or information and make a decision on the case, you will be notified by mail. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Should I be worried? Or does it take a while for it actually get into the hands of somebody who does the actual updating?

Of course, I'm worried because the response deadline is later this week, so in my pre-dawn anxiety, I'm already anticipating receiving a denial for not responding and figuring out all what I'd have to send them to (a) replace the evidence I sent and (B) to prove that I sent it prior to the deadline (thank you, certified mail receipts)...

So should I start preparing that package now or wait until I there's a change in my case status?

Nothing to be worried about. USCIS updates arent always up-to-date. Most of us here have physical Green Cards in hand and their status still says, case pending. I am sure your RFE response has reached your file. Your online status can be updated anytime now. Or maybe not. Don't worry.

And, of course, having had that mini-panic this morning, I check this afternoon and see:

On September 18, 2009, we received your response to our request for evidence. This case is being processed at our NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. You should expect to receive a written decision or written update within 60 days of the date we received your response unless fingerprint processing or an interview are standard parts of case processing and have not yet been completed, in which case you can use the processing time information on our website to estimate when this case will be done. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

So I'm officially not worrying (and your response this morning certainly help calm me down, too!)

In my case I sent the RFE back, and in 10 days I did a biometrics walk-in. Right after biometrics (the same day) my I-485 and I-7 65 were touched, with the update saying "case processing resumed" and the date of the RFE recieved which was 5 DAYS before this update. I heard sometimes there is no update, and then in some time you recieved your EAD/ interview letter regardless. The only difference is that a person is freaking out every day, thinking their RFE response was lost or something. However, if you call them about it, they will tell you that it has to be 60 days since you sent the RFE before you can complain (that's what the operator told me when I called), so there is nothing really you can do for now :( sorry I hope you hear soon from them though!

A lot less worry now...I just got the electronic notice that my employment authorization has been approved! Spent an hour looking for info on some of the other paperwork in my future (in terms of getting SSN and state ID and bank account, etc.)...trying NOT to think about what sort of work I'll do...at least until tomorrow...Tonight is for celebration!
