OK, Not a normal question, but... Natalya's mother just puchased a dog for her. She will be comming to USA in September, so she will still have this dog. Does anyone know what she needs to do to get this dog past customs? Russia to USA.

The dog is a tiny rat thing.. pe-kan-eese. and her name is Juliet.

Yes she can bring a dog. It has to have a series of shots and checked out by a vet. I will try to find the link for you that explains these things.

I have seen pets being transported from Russia to the USA on my trips before, so it definitly is done.

Here is another link about shipping pets. The dog must be vaccinated against rabbies and common dog diseases at least one month before the departure.

It must have a health certificate less than a week before she flies with the dog, tho these are the requirements for my country, she should call the airlines for that specific matter.

She has also to make sure the companies that allow pets on flights are not applying an embargo (june 15 to september 15).

Also when they allow pets on flights, the ambiant temperature must not exceed 28°C when she gets on the plane.

Then she needs a transportation box that respond to the IATA requirements

Good luck with that!

This is a good site listing pet regulations on 16 Domestic airlines:

http://www.urbanhound.com/houndPlay/airTravel.asp

Her best bet to transport a little dog is to get it inside the cabin if at all possible then the temperature doesn't apply. She will need to arrange in-cabin space with the airlines well before hand, both her international flight and any domestic airline connecting flight.
