Surprised he didn't try to sell his 18 year old sister also

The kid is an entrepreneur..plain and simple.. buy low sell high... its common in VN to see you kids or women selling gum that they bought cheap and need to make a buck on it... good for him! He's not trying to steal.. he's running a business.

just because the kid is trying to make a living in a poor city he is likely to sell his sister? That's F'd up!

Poor kid. If I were there, I wouldn't mind him hustling me for $100. I would gladly give that to him. I wish more people could help them.

He got me for a whopping .56! I agree though. I wish I could do something for these kids. I've had 2 people ask me to bring theirs back there with me and actually had a guy shove a baby into my arms once.

The thing is, he's buying the gum for the US equivalent of a .30 and selling for about .60.. the kid sold two packs of gum and made .60 profit if he got his initial price... I often buy a pack and give them more $... The kid is not looking for a handout just a customer. he can then go eat a good meal for what he made from flipping 4 packs of gum. If he sells enough the family is eating good that day. There is no welfare like we have here.. the poor dont get handouts like in the US... its not uncommon to see a guy walking his (severly mentally and physically handicapped) mother up and down the streets looking for handouts... One could be eating in an outside cafe and the guy would walk up to you and stand there with her making god aweful moans and groans until you paid him to go away...

I would be surprised if that kid with the gum's whole family made 100 bucks profit in an entire month...

Its the same in the north as it is the south, I have seen so many young mothers carrying infants all day trying to sell some gum or anything they can flip for a profit to make some money for the family... I should just carry a pocket full of ones and hand them out as i go about my business whenever I run into one of these folks... given that the standard wage is about 4 or 5 bucks a day.. whats a dollar here and there to me when it can make that big of an impact on them...

I have actually been thinking about building a school there when we get our house built... I am planning on living there after she gets her GC during the summer and here in the winter until my son goes to college.

That's very noble of you and I hope you succeed in building a school there :)
