Hello! My interview was today and it went well.

We arrived in Baltimore and found parking in a parking garage ($10/hr) just 5 minutes walk from the federal building. We went through security, and gave the interview letter to reception. The room was full of people but I only waited about 5 minutes before being called in. My husband waited in the waiting room.

A lady took me to a cubicle and explained she would do the reading, writing and civic test. I was asked the following questions:

1) What is the name of the national anthem?

2) What do the 13 stripes on the flag stand for?

3) What ocean is off the west coast?

4) What happened on September 11th?

5) What is the rule of law?

6) How old must you be to vote for president?

I had to read: "What is the largest state in America?" (or similar to this)

I had to write: "Alaska is the largest state in America" (or similar to this)

After, I went back out and waited for 5 minutes then was called in again by a different officer (a man this time). We went to a different office and he swore me in by oath. He took my passport, driving license and green card, plus my old 2 year GC and EAD card. Then he went through lots of papers without asking me anything, and was stapling/clipping, stamping forms. Then we went through my N400 application form in detail, question by question, and I was reaffirming my answers that I had put on the N400 form. I signed a form, then he said I was approved, and asked if I wanted to go to the oath ceremony next week. He didn't ask for any other documents and there was no chat about off topic things. He gave me back my passport, GC and driving license (he kept the old GC and EAD and stapled them to my file).

He gave me a white form that said I had passed the reading/writing/civic test and that I was recommended for approval. He then printed out my blue oath letter - September 23rd in Baltimore  - and then I was free to leave.

Phew!

If I ever go through this again, which I never will, very happy with my wife, will make a point to move to a city that has a field office that gives the certificate the same day as the interview. Yours is second best, you got the oath letter, many others, they leave you hanging, if not for weeks, for months.

Isn't this the same USCIS? 80 some odd field offices, each with different procedures, crazy.

Hi KikiDoug,

Congratulations on passing your citizenship interview and thanks for sharing about your experience here on VJ.

Wow, that's quick that you got an oath within a week!

Interesting to know too, that they took your GC and EAD during your interview. Aren't they supposed to take that during the oath instead of the interview, in case you need it before then? Oh well, since they took it before, and you don't necessarily need it now, you don't have to worry about that.

Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey too, especially with the oath coming up for you.

Hi Kiki,

Oh ok...thanks for the clarification regarding that....No worries for you about that then, as your 2yr GC and EAD are expired already...

Just make sure you bring your 10yr green card for the oath ceremony though...

By the way, when you gave them your expired cards, did they ask for such, or did you voluntary give it to them? Just wondering, as I don't have an EAD (I never did apply for one in the first place), and I already threw out my expired 2yr GC...Wondering if I would get in trouble for not having such...

Good luck with your upcoming oath ceremony too.

Congratulations KikiDoug!

Were you done with your interview by 2:15pm? If yes, why didn't they schedule your oath for the same day?

Also, when was your 3 year continuous permanent residence requirement satisfied?

Is that true that if I'm done with my interview before 3 year residence even by a few days they can't do same day oath, and I have to make another trip to the field office?
