Hello all,

Okay, we have recieved our NOA2 about 3 weeks ago...I came down to mexico on Sept. 10th and will be here until the 29th...

my questions are:

1. How long before we hear something from CDJ?

2. Should I call CDJ to find out if they've sent my fiance his package yet?

3. What if he never recieves it, and how long do I wait before getting stressed about it?

4. Our NOA2 expires Dec 16th, so I know we want to do the first interview ASAP (we are going to need a waiver)... does it make any difference if I am in Cuidad Juarez with him? I know it will be easier but I'm just not sure that I can afford to come back down that quickly.

5. Is it still only Cuidad Juarez that we can go through?? I see that there is a consulate in Guadalajara which is only 1 hour away from us... ???

PLEASE AND THANK YOU! any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hello all,

Okay, we have recieved our NOA2 about 3 weeks ago...I came down to mexico on Sept. 10th and will be here until the 29th...

my questions are:

1. How long before we hear something from CDJ? Your petition has to go through NVC first; if your NOA2 was 3 weeks ago, you have probably (but by no means certainly) cleared NVC. Call NVC (603-334-0700, 8 am to midnight M-F), choose the option to speak to an operator, and give them your USCIS receipt number. You'll be able to get your CDJ case number and find out if they sent the approved petition onward or if you're stuck in additional processing.

2. Should I call CDJ to find out if they've sent my fiance his package yet? You can call the State Department visa line (202-663-1225, 8:30-5 M-F) in DC to find this out once you have the CDJ number from NVC.

3. What if he never recieves it, and how long do I wait before getting stressed about it? You're getting ahead of yourself. Find out if you're out of NVC and what your status is at CDJ before you start thinking about this stuff.

4. Our NOA2 expires Dec 16th, so I know we want to do the first interview ASAP (we are going to need a waiver)... does it make any difference if I am in Cuidad Juarez with him? I know it will be easier but I'm just not sure that I can afford to come back down that quickly. It's always advisable for the USC to attend the interview if possible. If it's not possible, it's good to include an explanation in the new letter of intent to marry that you'll provide to your fiance for the interview.

5. Is it still only Cuidad Juarez that we can go through?? I see that there is a consulate in Guadalajara which is only 1 hour away from us... ??? CDJ is the only consulate in Mexico that processes immigrant visas, and in general only IV posts process K-1s.

PLEASE AND THANK YOU! any advice is greatly appreciated.

Just because NVC gave you the new case number does not mean that the case has been transferred. Unless you were specifically told that the case was transferred and the date, you can't assume that it has. Significant numbers of us are being shunted into additional processing at NVC, which can add weeks to the process.

I'm not familiar with procedures at CDJ, but I know that the State Department's visa line can tell you whether the consulate has sent out the pre-interview packet yet. Perhaps someone with experience at CDJ can jump in.

As these are consulate-specific questions, moving this thread to the appropriate forum:

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

You are almost there and now you have to deal with the embassy. This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.
