Tourist Visas from Thailand

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I have been married now for two years. We would like to bring her father, mother, and brother here to the USofA to visit.

I know that all of them need to prove of ties to their country and I think we will be able to do that thru bank accounts in their names, owning a home there, etc.

We would like them to come next September for about three weeks. I guess I am asking the easy questions.."Where do I start?", "What is the process?". Does anyone have any experiance with getting Tourist Visas in Thailand? How long does it take?

I have heard of 10 year Tourist Visas. Do these exist? If so I would like to shoot for this type of Visa so if they visit again I won't have to go thru the process.

Any places on the web or here at VJ where I can get the answers or any advice from the seasoned Veterens here? :)

  1. Good luck getting a tourist visa for anyone who isn't wealthy from Thailand. Seriously. It's pretty close to impossible to get one. I wish you luck, but don't bank on it happening.
  2. You need to follow the instructions on the Bangkok embassy's website to apply for a tourist visa separately for each person. There is a fee, forms, and an interview for each person. Take a look at http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/non-immigrant_visas.html. The process differs from an immigrant visa in that you supply all forms and evidence @ the interview & you schedule your interview online.
  3. The interview booking schedule varies, you will need to look at http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/tem...p;x=79&y=17 for an estimate of the current backlog. Last time I checked a couple months ago you could expect an interview within a week of scheduling one.

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

As Ray said, start with the links he provided. You need to fill out a DS-156, DS-157, and another Thai form for each person. You will need proof, and lots of it, to show they have no plans to emmigrate.

They never tell you exactly what you need, because it makes it more fun! (that was sarcasm!)

It costs $141 each and you pay for them at the post office and take the receipts.

As for a 10 yr B-1/2, that is totally up to the CO and what he feels like giving. I surely wouldn't count on a 10 yr unless they have "connections". 2 yr is about typical, 5 yr with a proven record.

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)
