Paying more if you file late

My wife and I have been going through some difficult times financially and we will need to file late in order to save money to pay for the process. We were told by some friends of ours that if you do this the fee increases dramatically. They said it would double. Is this true? She already has the 2 year green card. We would be removing the conditions.

NOT true but if you file late you are lose your residentcy and can't work or travel. USCIS will also begin removal proceedings.

NOT A GOOD THING TO FILE EVEN 1 DAY LATE

I would not recommend this. I have heard from many others and read in many places that if you fail to file for removal of conditions before your 2 year GC expires you have effectively abandoned your LPR status and are subject to deportation. If you don't want this to happen I suggest you find a way to get the funds together.

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

I don't get it. Keeping your status should be one of the highest priority. If you lose your status, you can't work, can't provide for your family. I've heard grace period but not doubling of fees. You must file it on time unless there is a good reason. Not enough money is NOT a good reason. Use payday loan or borrow money from family and friends. Good luck.

Late application is not acceptable unless you have a really good reason. That is why they gave you 90 days to prepare before your card is expired. Even you have a hard finance, try to borrow whoever you can, then pay them later even with high interest. It is just one time, but it is very important for your life and your family. Good luck!
