My wife is brazillian andwas previously married and divorced. What they do is put all the information on the marriage certificate and divorce certificate that is on her birth certificate. Then when they get married they take it away the birth certificate. What do i do for birth certificate if I can' get one, her marriage license acts as it now in brazil. They do this so people cannot get remarried in other states.

Hi,

I hope it helps:

1. She can always have her birth certificate, she can request on the "Cartório" or even online http://www.cartorio24horas.com.br/ . They would send her over mail, and it would cost around R$40,00 - R$50,00.

2. They do this to avoid people to have two different registers as single and married, two different identities, not (just) to avoid people to get remarried in other states.

2. Ask your fiancee to read this [ http://www.simplescidade.com.br/sao-paulo/...o-de-casamento/], they explain what she have to do to be legal able to marry you. As far as I know, she needs her birth certificate, her divorce papers (there is a specific name for it but I don't know), and two witness to testify that she is free to marry. I prefer do not translate to avoid mistakes.

Edited to fix the website link.

As said above, she can request her birth certificate anytime going to the "Cartório" at her city or even online http://www.cartorio24horas.com.br . I suggest you/her to try this one... it's quite simple and she will receive her original birth certificate.

There is no law that takes your birth certificate away from you. There are laws that demands that you show your divorce papers, marriage papers and so on but no one can disappear with your birth certificate.

My life is perfect now, I'm here with my love and everything is great! I feel blessed, thank you God for all your plans, they are way better than I could have ever asked for.
