Give me your opinion....

Hubby and I were talking last night about circumcision and whether or not we will chose to circumcize our child in the event we have a boy.

How do you guys feel about it? Is it true that most Jamaican men born in Jamaica are not circumcized? Is it a cultural thing, a medical thing or other reason for not doing so? How about Jamaican men born in the US? Anyone on here have an American/Jamaican boy and what did you do?

sorry if i sound like an idiot but I'm really trying to get educated on the matter....

finesse.....my son is circumsized and richard didnt understand why it is that way but he is ok with it now.....he wasnt happy at first about it but quickly got over it once my mom talked to him about it.....i guess it is def not common in JA and hence why he was not happy with me at first......it is my fault becasue its nothing me and him discussed befroe patrick had it done in the hospital buit to me it was just a common thing that is done in our culture and never really thought it would be a big deal......

Nah. Looks like we'll do Justice of the Peace. I want to get married the week of Thanksgiving & am hoping a judge can do it on that Wednesday afternoon, so I don't have to use vacation.

The celebration will be Saturday, Nov 28.

If they can't accomodate you, there are "rent-a-preacher"s who will come to your house. We got one to come. It cost about $200 I think, with the tip. You better check your justice of the peace soon. Here, they only do it on certain days and times.

Morning! Yay, can't wait till this 3 day weekend! I took monday off becuase I knew Tierra would be out of school.

What is the occasion for being out of school?

Colombus Day weekend. Is this just a Maine thing?

Nope. My kids are off too.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I think it's an individual decision you make - Can't speak from a JA perspective - but I know my sister's boys are not, because her hubby is not and she wanted them to not question why they were different than daddy - my son was not cause I didn't want him to question why he was different from his cousins - we already had the why is he pale and I am dark debate going

We've had this discussion. From my [minimal] research, it seems that a main reason to do so is because it's easier to keep clean when circumsized. But if one puts in the extra time to clean well, it's no problem.

I told Steven that if he wants to keep our future son(s) uncircumsized, he'll be responsible for teaching them proper hygiene in that area.

It's my understanding most JA are not circumsized. When my son was born, I had him circumsized. I forget all the reasons; but I did read up on it first and decided it was best for him in the long run. You can google it.
