It's too hard to identify the best and worst of your own country, so I'll skip the US.

BENIN (probably applies to most of West Africa)

Best

Colorful - clothes, music, ceremonies, languages, you name it.

Beaches - incredible!

Friendly people, non-judgemental

Strong sense of responsibility toward family

Sights - especially the ways people get around

Crafts

Lots of celebrations/ceremonies

dancing

Worst

Strong sense of responsibility toward family so there is no privacy and no getting ahead financially

Lots of money spent on celebrations/ceremonies so no one ever gets ahead financially

Really poor infrastructure

Sun comes up relatively late and sets relatively early 356 days a year

Skinny chickens

Corruption

bad roads and transportation

bad medical care

supermarkets are rare

Gumbo (It's not what we call gumbo but okra, and it's not the way we prepare okra.)

bush meat - gag!!!

2 wet seasons

disorganization is entrenched

I'd fit right in.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Before I ever went to Africa a friend of mine who'd lived there used to swear that they starved their chickens to death.

Then I met my husband. We were living in China at the time. I used to cook for him and he was always very complimentary of my cooking. Then after about six months, he asked me if it was possible to get an "authentic" chicken in China. You can imagine my confusion.

They actually do prefer skinny chickens. They think the meat tastes better if it is closer to the bone.
