Really the Democrats need to take a different approach to trying to sell a health care proposal to Republicans. This notion of "help the unfortunate uninsured get coverage so the don't go bankrupt and lose their homes" is not really going to have much affect (in case you didn't notice). It never will unless one of them happens to have gone trough it, in which case they probably already support it.

No- they need to start addressing this as a way to collect from deadbeats who abuse the system. Show them the video of that chick at the beginning of the video talking about how she got injured and has no idea of what the hospital bill was because she didn't bother paying it, and then show how she could have afforded a low cost medical plan and chose not to. It won't take much to explain how this drives up the costs of those who are paying.

You have to talk specifically about how it will save them money, and that's it. Stop with the bleeding heart stuff. Its worth a try for some although general distrust of the government is a whole other hurdle that I'm not sure you're going to get over.

Once again, it's the people who already have insurance who don't want national healthcare. Let them lose their job, though, and they'd be the first one asking where their health care is. Me, I've only had health insurance twice in my life. Most of the people I know don't have health insurance. I'd gladly pay more in taxes to have health insurance.

Oh Jeez, here is another one who wants his free health insurance.... and he is even willing to agree to a few dollar increase in taxes to help pay for it.

I swear man, everyone who is for it, thinks either they will not pay for it or it will be just a slight increase.

Like somehow their twenty bucks extra a month is going to cover the paper work.

------------

There have been times I had no insurance and I can guarantee, in those time, the last thing I wanted was to have some Obama care type plan forcing me to pay hundreds a month to pay for his mandatory plan... or else suffer the punishment of penalties and fines.

The ones who will be hurt the most... are the same ones you Big-Gov types, pretend to care about.

That's the fun part of individual health insurance for sure. Then there are a lot of people who are uninsureable at any price because they had a spider bite when they were 5 or their mother had a heart attack at 55.

Of course. It's a big deal if you have to carry health insurance but it's widely accepted that you have to carry car insurance, home owners or renters insurance, etc. I know, now they're going to say, well, both driving a car and buying or renting a home are choices one makes. The question then becomes: If you choose not to carry health insurance, would you think it's okay if they show out the door of the ER if you can't pay up front?

I read an interesting article the other day where it talked about that very thing. A question raised in the article was - why is that you find in the US that one can receive hospital treatment even without a payer source? The BEHAVIOR implies that we as a society believe in care for all. Why then if this is what we as a society ethically believe - why then does our system of payment not support the ethic?

During those times when you had no health insurance, I would have imagined that the "last thing" you would have wanted would have been for the taxpayers to pay for your catastrophic illness or injury. Of course, you may have a cool half million (or so) in your pocket to cover such contingencies, and you simply choose not to use it to pay for health insurance premiums.

I actually got on the phone and asked friends "who is a cheap doctor to go to".

And the fact that anyone with insurance never even thinks of doing this IS THE REASON COST IS OUT OF CONTROL.

You can see a doctor today for under a hundred bucks.

If you are worried about some major illness, this type of coverage is fairly reasonable.

LOL at that cheap doctor.

One thing is a routine checkup and another, I guess, is something a little more than $100/service. A Monday Dannologic leap of fail.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I guess all of these people who are against federal (socialist) healthcare also never visit libraries or drive on the Interstate system....

Damn Socialists! Everyone knows the government can't possibly run a large venture like healthcare or an Interstate highway system!

I'm so glad it was you who posted after me....

Why aren't conservatives throwing a fit about paying for something they never use - libraries? It's a socialist, government-run drain on working people! Taxes pay for libraries, but not everyone uses or needs them. Where's the outrage?

Same for Interstates. Millions of people live in cities and never, ever leave; therefore never using the Interstate (Federal) system that THEIR tax dollars are paying for! They don't need them, so why should they have to pay for them?
