Any Teachers Present?

My wife has her Masters in Education, but she has to take the praxis tests... 4 tests all total she needs. It has been 15 years since she took her tests in the Philippines, and she is afraid she wont pass the tests here, even with a study guide, because of all the theories and so forth involved in the tests. It has been a very long time since her school days... She feels discouraged, because she feels like she has to start all over in learning again.

Anyone here who is a teacher, who has gotten certified for teaching here after years since completing education degree in the Philippines? Would like to hear your experiences.

I'm a teacher, but I'm not from the Philippines and I took my tests (NTE - pre PRAXIS) just after university. However, I'm currently teaching in a district that recruits teachers from the Philippines. I don't know exactly what their contracts require, but I feel certain they are obligated to take the PRAXIS. There are several hundred teachers from the Philippines in my district.

Is she taking a course or studying from a PRAXIS preparation book? I'm sure she will do fine.

Good luck.

Agreed.

If she has prep book and or taking a study course, I would bet she will be just fine when she takes the test

I have taught in Maryland for 4 yrs ago and when we were hired the school district told us to take Praxis I and Praxis II. Then after passing Praxis I, we were told that we don't have to take it coz we have the Phil license and after a month I took Praxis II for Special Education. I would suggest to take both coz Praxis I is just Reading, Writing and Mathematics and Praxis II would be just the content area. There are review guides being sold by the ETS.

Did she have her TORs evaluated here in the US? I would suggest that she do this first since the HR or accreditation office of the school district will ask for the equivalency of her transcripts from the Philippines.

Good luck! :)

Forgiveness is not saying what someone did to us is right. It is saying, "I'll let God straighten this out"..
