SSN, what to do?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I've tried to read everything I can about the SSN so sorry if this question has been asked a million times already.

I applied as a K-1, filled out the DS-230-I and everything is now approved, to the point that I received my permanent resident card (albeit with the wrong date of birth on it but that's a separate(I-90) issue, grrrrr)

I haven't chased getting a SSN because I thought I wouldn't get one until I got my EAD, since I checked the box on the DS230 (I'm pretty sure), so then I waited longer because I still believed that I would be issued one. I've been here since Nov 2008 and got my permanent resident card this week and EAD about 3 weeks ago.

Should they have sent me a SSN card yet?

Or are they always late?

Should I go to the SSA office and chase it up?

Or should I contact the USCIS?

Thanks for any advice people can offer, after a long period of paperwork headaches (as I sure you all know) I kinda just want to get everything done for 2 years until I have to remove the conditions on my residence.

I just had another thought that may help me understand the time lines better for this.

Does "arrive" mean when you land and get off the plane, or when they have approved your petition and given you a green card? If it's the latter then I guess I can expect the SS card to take a bit longer, if not then it means I should have had it months ago??

For off checking off on the DS-230 that you want an SSN is only for people issued immigrant visas and all K visas are nonimmigrant.

You need to go into a Social Security office or Card Center to apply for your SSN. You can either go now an apply with your EAD card and be issued a restricted SSN card. Then go back after you have an I-551 stamp or card an apply for an unrestricted SSN card or just wait until you have your Form I-551 (Green Card) to apply.
