The world’s ocean surface temperature was the warmest for any August on record, and the warmest on record averaged for any June-August (Northern Hemisphere summer/Southern Hemisphere winter) season according to NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. The preliminary analysis is based on records dating back to 1880.

NCDC scientists also reported that the combined average global land and ocean surface temperature for August was second warmest on record, behind 1998. For the June-August 2009 season, the combined global land and ocean surface temperature was third warmest on record.

Global warming, although the usual suspects will be around soon enough to argue otherwise.

On brighter news - the House approved the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act (SAFRA)!

Under current law, the federal government guarantees about 97 percent of all risk student lenders assume through the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). But the bill that passed the House on Thursday would end those subsidies and permit the Department of Education to offer loans directly, effectively shutting companies like Sallie Mae out of the federal loan industry.

The change, lawmakers said, is motivated in part by fluctuations in the market, which have rendered some student loans insurmountable.

"The status quo student loan program that takes taxpayer money and gives it to private lenders and then rewards them to take a risk, not with their money but with ours, doesn't make any sense," Rep. Roberts Andrews (D-N.J.) said on Wednesday during floor debate.

Empirical evidence by first hand observers.

We didn't have a summer here, it went straight from a dodgy spring into an early autumn, skipping right over summer entirely. Wettest July on record. Bah Humbug!

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

So I guess our cool summer, as was last year as well, was only imagined. I also guess all temp guages on the boats I was on were off as well, as the water was a couple degrees cooler then normal and took a while to warm up. Uf course it cooled down pretty quickly again last week.

All our satellite shots were off as well as there wasn't much orange (warm water) on the chart other then the normal gulf stream image and we had a lack of warm eddies break off this year.

Did have a lot of south current and colder water from the labrador current this year which was not normal.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

And it was cool here, too. Not much rain, either.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Not only Charles, but Wisconsin had the coolest summer in recorded history, first time ever, had to turn on my furnace, house gets pretty cold with 35*F ambient temperatures.

Were you aware that NASA is far more of a political rather than a scientific organization! Can only wonder if their scientists were sticking their thermometers up their bosses butts rather than kissing them.

That's because the as the atmoshpere is being destroyed it doesn't just make it hotter all the time. It alters weather patterns, some places get colder, the North and South poles get warmer. It's all fuсked up.

Cool and wet in June. A bit cooler than normal in July, a degree or so, August was hot and humid. September is close to norm.
