Wow, that's alot of homicides.

Toronto has one too, but I think about 50 show up on the map each year.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

NYC alone has more murders than those killed by firearms in Australia, Canada, UK and New Zealand combined.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Cool map.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

The entire map of Chicago would be one big-azz blue dot.

Is that right?

299 homicides so far this year in a city of 8.5 million people doesn't sound like a large number.

Hah, and to think that this is the city I'll be moving too... good thing I like it there :)

I was in New York a couple of weeks ago, a guy followed me off the train in Staten Island and tried to steal my laptop (I was carrying it in my arms, arms folded across my chest). This happened in broad daylight, 11:30am, on the street with people around us - which turned out to be very fortunate for me, because I didn't let go of the laptop right away so we struggled for a while before he just let go and took off. Still an extremely frightening experience but it could have been a lot worse!

I did get a very good response from the SI NYPD - four police cruisers, an ambulance, two undercover cops, and detectives all showed up to help me out and to try and catch the guy. We didn't get him, unfortunately :(

July 2007 - met Jesse at a beach party held by mutual friends in Long Island, NY

May 2008 - J-1 visa expired, had to move back to Australia

July 2008-September 2008 - lived with Jesse for three months in Staten Island, NY

March 2009 - Jesse comes to Australia for 3 weeks

April 2009 - Engaged!

05/20/09 - I-129F petition mailed in

05/22/09 - NOA1!

05/25/09 - touch

09/09/09 - NOA2!

10/01/09 - due to fiance's illness, we are abandoning pursuit of K-1 at this point. Packet 3 received from consulate but won't be returned.

If you are moving there this map might be helpful (if you don't have a place already).

You can see the most likely places to be a victim of crime and the places to avoid.

I think this is common knowledge to be honest - the Manhattan of 2009 is a heck of a lot safer than the Manhattan of the 1970's which gave rise to paranoia about subway mugging.

Most of the crime that takes place in the city occurs in the boroughs surrounding Manhattan.

And even that being said, as someone noted above, police response in NYC is truly commendable.

There is a heavy police presence in Manhattan.

True...

Even in Brooklyn and Bronx, if you call 911... help is there in minutes... it is truly amazing, considering the size of the city and the bureaucracy of city services. (imho)
