Are you supposed to bring 3 copies of everything?

direct quote from my letter (page 2 of 3):

"Please bring to your interview the original and one copy of the following documents"; it then lists the usual stuff (birth certificate, police clearance, evidence of support, evidence of domicile, letter of intent to marry, etc...)

I just brought one copy of everything, plus the original. The only things they actually wanted a copy of were the BC, my passport bio page and the DS 156.

It never hurts to be over prepared and bring more than you need. Just remember that no matter how organized you think you are, when they start asking you for specific things, you will get confused and freak out a little, especially with all that paper with you

Sorry guys.....HAHHAHAH! I also have:

2 copies of my DS-230 part 1 I sent in for packet 3

original and 2 copies of DS-230 part 2 (just in case)

2 copies of my packet 3 (just in case)

I can tell you, that I went in with 2 or 3 copies of everything and I was SOOO glad!!! I had so many copies, that when we went to apply for my (now) husband's AOS, I just whipped those cpoies outta the K1 notebook and we were 2/3 of the way there!

Another suggestion... put the forms in numerical order. Numbers then letters... 256 then 256-K and so on. That way, no matter WHAT order they barked the numbers in, I could handle them effectively and efficiently. Yeah, although my husband was the K1, I was the paper organizer... guess it comes with being a teacher. ;)

Good luck!!!

JULY09BRIDE, I absolutely agree with you on having loads of copies for AOS. My fiance is a total dumba** when it comes to keeping things organized. He totally sucks at it. He loses EVERYTHING.

I try to be super organized with everything I do. Having 2 accordion file folders helped me keep everything safe and in its place.

I just used a 3-ring binder (mind you it was a HEAVY sucker) and tabs and sheet protectors (large quantity ones work nicely... can put loads of copies into one holder!).

In fact, I'm about to go to the "Binder O' Fun" to finish preparing for our AOS interview in 1 month. Soooooo glad I had all those copies and kept it all together.

Also, for those with interviews coming up, we took everything (more than what we needed) with us. In our binder, I had a section JUST for the interview, but had other items there as well. I didn't want to come home and redo everything again, so everything is in the ONE binder, in one place, soooo easy to find & deal with now that we're in AOS.

Best of luck to you all!!!

Mel was the obsessive one during the Visa application portion. Then I got to do the AoS part. I'm glad that she was so meticulous, and made 3 copies of our visa application. I just picked one of em apart mostly. The only pain in the #### part was getting some tax documentation together.

I know i've said in various other threads that you should go to Timmies down the street before your interview in a tongue in cheek manner. But I'm serious about it, the vending machines suck, and you're going to be there til 10 a.m. if you're one of the first 3 in line, and probably noon or later if you aren't. You don't want to be irritable or cranky during the interview, or before that when you're dealing with the angry lady. So go get a sammich!!!!! :)

Hi Everyone

Maybe is a dumb question but what they mean with evidence of domicile...? I guess it`s for the US citizen...my fiance has no lease agreement he lives in his daughter`s house...?

I have no lease agreement in Canada either ...I`m in Caribbean now and moving back to Canada in October...I`m going to live at my parent`s home until I get my visa and move....

Could we get problems at the interview???

Thanks for your help

No, your fiance lives in the U.S. right? That is considered domicile. Only comes in to play when both parties live elsewhere (not the U.S.)

Good afternoon Trailmix,

Yes he lives in USA and he works at the same place since 20 years...I have all my stuff ready for the interview except that I have to get my translated documents notatize...don`t really understand what they mean by this. I call my notary and she thinks that she needs to make me swear that the translation are good...??? My daughter translated them (she is studying to be translator at University, her teacher review it and everything is good)...I have my medical scheduled on October 16th...I will review everything once again!

Thanks a million Trailmix!!!

Have a good week end

that's something I was confused about too--evidence of domicile for who? The US petitioner or the beneficiary.

cripes-you'd think what with all the money and time put into these processes they'd reciprocate in some fashion with some clarity.... *argh*

Seeing as how I wasn't allowed to edit my own post (#######).... Here's my edited version:

that's something I was confused about too--evidence of domicile for who? Now that I've looked into it, I believe they are requesting evidence of domicile from/pertaining to the US petitioner - NOT the beneficiary.

I found the "official"/federal explanations and definitions of domicile here:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/in....html#_Domicile

*note- if I'm wrong re: my first statement about domicile being about the US petitioner, please let me know!

Always for the petitioner - the domicile issue relates to the I-864 - the petioner must have domicile in order to qualify to apply using the I-864.

Now there are certain instances where the petitioner might be in the Military or something - this doesn't apply to them. I guess in some circumstances the AOS petitioner could be working overseas and leave their AOSing partner in the U.S.?? In that case I suppose they might have to prove domicile.

When both of you are living in the U.S. - it is a complete 100% non-issue.

thanks TS.

in my personal circumstance, they asked for the proof of domicile to bring with me to my interview... I have the signed/completed I-864 forms (which include his tax returns)... What all else should I bring?

It depends where he is and why? Most important is the why.
