Hey Everyone!

Is Eid Ul-Fitr the 20th or the 21st?? I keep getting mixed reports.

Also, if anyone can give me suggestions on how to make this special for my husband I would appreciate it. This was his first Ramadan and will be his first Eid here.

Thanks in advance!

Laura

I'm celebrating it on the 20th. I would just make a nice big breakfast, go the mosque for morning prayer, and then go out to lunch and exchange gifts and maybe do an activity in the area?

InshaAllah it will be on the 20th, per the Islamic Center of Minnesota

Although, I would like to hear it from the Islamic Juriprudence Council of Minnesota

Also, I talked to my uncle in Saudi Arabia earlier this morning and he also said that Saudi, inshaAllah is planning for the 20th as well. Hope that helps.

Inshallah it'll be on the 20th. Islamic Foundation of Villa Park is also celebrating on 20th.

For those who are lucky enough to spend eid with their loved ones, congrats and enjoy especially if this is your first eid-ul-fitr together.

I'm so confused. So if it's on the 20th, does it start that evening or the evening before (in other words, are you still fasting on the day of the 20th)?

This is exactly my problem. I'm not muslim and my husband is too sweet to ask me to do anything for him because he doesn't want me to feel like I have to. So I'm trying to put together something special for him. But I don't know what the traditions are and I don't know when he can eat and all of that stuff.

I'm lost!!

We (but I'm basically doing all the organizing) are going to have a huge get together at our home. We've invited several of our Muslim friends, but have also invited my family as well. I'm doing a hodge podge of Middle Eastern food and some good 'ole Southern eats as well. I'm doing some candy bags for the kids as well AND it's one of the kids birthday, so we are having a birthday cake for her.

Hubby is grilling some chicken (legs and breasts) and hot dogs (beef of course) for the kidlets.

It's going to be alot of work but I'm excited to have everyone in our home to celebrate the special day!

As for small scale, I think a favorite dish or a cake would be nice! :)

Laura you could be go to one of the local Eid prayers. There are many places, although Shakopee and Brooklyn Center will have lots of people (makes it feel very Eidish <--Just made up that word, hee hee). Then you could bring him to Marina or Holy Land. There will be LOTS of other Muslims, he may enjoy the busyness of it all. Have you asked any of the other Moroccans that you know here in the Twin Cities, what they will be doing?

I had no idea there was a masjid in Shakopee. Where exactly is that? He's just been going to the one in Eden Prairie and I thought the one in Fridley would be busy on Sunday... though it is a little far away from us.

We've been to Holy Land in Midtown global market and the one in NE minneapolis but I've never heard of Marina... where/what is that?

I mentioned to my husband to invite some friends over and I'll have little cookies and cakes prepared. But I'm not sure what they'll have planned. I know we're going to spend a fantastic night with another couple on Saturday to celebrate the last night of Ramadan...

It's not a mosque. It's the Shakopee Community Center. Many Muslims congregate there to pray for the Eid. I usually attend the the gathering at the Earle Brown Heritage Center. Marina is like Holyland, except it doesn't have a grocery store. There is the Big Marina in Columbia Heights/Hilltop off of Central and 47th. The Little Marina is located NorthEast Mpls, on Lowry and University.

InshaAllah you and your hubby have a great Eid!!!
