Ohmygosh, Carla, he is GORGEOUS! And I love his name.

You've been holding out on us!

Holding out on you? It's funny. We had a beagle, Max, who passed away just prior to me moving down here. Gene was not open to having a new dog until about six months ago. He's meticulous about doing "research", and this is a breed I've always wanted, so I had to let Gene do his thing. Then, we started to look. It's amazing how if you mention you're wanting a dog, and then the breed, how EVERYONE has a story to tell. All bad of course. We took this into consideration, but then realized that all breeds have something that someone doesn't like. With all the negatives, we felt there was too many positives about Gilbert (my Grandfather's name), not to bring him into our lives. We fell in love with him before we met him...much like Gene and I!

He is gorgeous. He's a smooth black and tan. We met his parents as well. We met him last night, and then after getting home couldn't sleep for most of the night!

If I wasn't going away for 10 days next week we could have had him come home sooner, but I couldn't cancel my trip.

I'm sure I'll have lots of stories to tell you about what a character he is!

That is awesome.

Yes, holding out on us! It reminded me of last Fall when I went back home to say goodbye to my uncle :( . On the road home, my husband said he had something to tell me but he'd wait until I returned. I was like "You can't do that! Tell me now or it'll drive me crazy!" :bonk: So he said "<Family member> had a baby." I was like :o :o :o:blink: We hadn't even known the girl had a boyfriend, let alone was pregnant! You don't do that to people! :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

Not that it's comparable..... it just reminded me of it. Plus, you'd have to know the circumstances in order to understand how much that blew us all away. You could have knocked me over with a feather! lol

Cute puppy! Puppy stage are always fun, well except for getting up in the middle of the night to take them out to pee,lol congrtas

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hi Carla,

Awww...what a cute addition to your family! Welcome to the family (and to VJ), Gilbert!

Thanks for sharing those pics with all of us!

This certainly makes me want to have a dog like Gilbert (but can't right now...have my hands full with a newborn...maybe later?).

Looking forward to reading more about "Gilbert's Adventures" here on VJ!

I'm sure you'll have a lot of great memories for you and your family with him!

Ant

P.S. By the way, if you don't mind me asking, what made you decide on the name Gilbert for you new addition?

We want you all to meet the new addition to our family! Gilbert will be joining us on October 5th. He's a miniature dachshund.
