Suggestion for Ewok: Single sign-on

No, I didn't think so.

It's clear. Politics creates discord. A political forum, unless limited to members of the same political persuasion, will be combative. It will be confrontational. It won't be friendly. Think of it like a dozen Joe Wilsons, on each side, screaming "You Lie!".

Is VJ OT a political forum? I'd say it is. If not by design, then certainly by evolution. If you doubt me, go look.

And yet, a significant percentage wants political threads banned. Not limited, not discouraged, but banned. It doesn't take a genius to know why. They despise the discord. They despise the combativeness.

But guess what? There are many who love it. They enjoy the wars, the screaming matches, the verbal sparring, even the occasional threat by a crazed Aussie with an imaginary sawed-off shotgun. They love it. I know I do.

So here's my proposal. Institute single sign-on between this site and the other site. No hyperlinks are necessary, the Internet is viral like that. We don't need to be pointed, we'll find it if it's there. Single sign-on would eliminate the one barrier that exists between the two sites.

And then, ban political threads on OT. Or at the very least, moderate OT as you currently do the Upper Forums.

The political threads and those who love them will be better off.

Those who hate the political threads will be better off.

Your moderators will have a lot less to do, making them better off.

And if you put ads on the other site, you too, will be better off.

Think about it.

If we do a single sign-on, perhaps at least two screens would be required, so that the timid and easily offended do not "accidently" fall onto evil side of VJ. Not everybody is ready to face Eric, or the alter egos of the normally pleasant VJ members, in an unmoderated enviroment.

If the other site does get the traffic of VJ, or worse, what will there be to differentiate that site from the /b chan sites? I anticipate that moderation will infest the other site as well, out of neccessity.
